    To break it down:

If a homosexual man lets it slip about his sexuality he is instantly booted from the army. If a heterosexual says that he wants to call his girlfriend then there is not an issue. Am I the only one who finds this disgusting? It is utter bullshit to use the excuse that it can distract the soldiers (knowing one's sexuality), so using that logic should woman be allowed in the army (and vice versa)?

This is all really quite sad.

Its logical. You want to keep soldiers happy and as as most soldiers are strait men it makes sense not to make them uncomfortable by the fact they are showering, sleeping, and changing with someone who is homosexual. Even if it may not bother you might bother you it may bother other people who aren't as open minding, which many people in the military are not.

Its just discrimination. Same way the people act around Arab people and black people. They think they're terrorists or something.

IMO, I think this is very wrong as a person does not choose to be gay/lesbian. They're just like that. Same as the black people. You didn't choose to be black. You just are born black.

Discrimination against them needs to stop now.

I agree with the fact that discrimination is wrong, but the policy is not meant to be discriminating.

Also adding to my point before, the US army doesn't want openly gay men in the army because of the harassment they may receive which they can sue the U.S army for letting the harassment take place. If your gay and want to be in the army just don't tell them your gay, its not a big deal.

I agreed until that part. Anybody will accidentally slip sometimes. It'll turn into like leeching an rs guide here on sythe. A chain of telling and reaction. I don't think it's a bad thing to have the rule, yet at the same time I do. I don't believe being homosexual is a good thing at all. But if a man who is, and wants to die for his country PROTECTING the ones who discriminate him, LET HIM!! Come on, discrimination doesn't read a person. It's like the old saying, "Don't judge a book by it's cover." It's ridiculous. It's sad, a homosexual dying for the ones they love, but still getting discriminated :noworry: .

Yes I agree that the army guys might feel uncomfortable in the presence of a gay person and might lead to the gay person getting beaten up or worse, but they're still people!

They should have rights and should not be judged by their sexual preference. They have feelings. The government should advise the army to put up with the gay people or risk getting court-marshaled.

Can't they be gay in their private time? They don't have to act gay when they're on duty, just like straight men don't go around kissing girls on duty.

Appletree, buy a dictionary and look up racism.

Thats not it. If someone knew that guy was gay, he'd be discriminated. Its not like the guy is kissing another guy when he's on duty. But when you know someone is gay, you get this weird uncomfortable feeling when you're around them.

@Appletree: Racism is basically one man hating another man's race. For example: White guy hates black guy. Black guy hates hispanic guy. White guy hates asian guy. You get my meaning? ;)

Schnell you're so naive. You realize that a homosexual man can't even say he misses his boyfriend or when he makes a telephone call home he is to pretend it is a lady friend. This isn't about a homosexual man sticking his penis into another man (against his will), it is about simply saying who you are.

What are you on about? It is as simple as this; you're caught you're out. You also know signing up for the United States army is a voluntary thing, so that makes all of this even worse.

Whether or not the law is meant to discriminate, it does. Anyways, that's just like saying you have to live a lie always keeping part of yourself hidden. That is not right, considering you're out there risking your life for this country and the thanks you get? Being kicked out.

    What?

Then why should straight men be able to openly say they are straight? You know men and women serve together in the army now. Using your logic women shouldn't allowed in the army which is a load of bullshit within itself.

I'm curious, do you speak from experience(i.e United States Veteran) or are you assuming?

It's an assumption. The law also states straight men are not supposed to voice their opinions if they know someone is homosexual (who is currently serving next to them) and they are asked if they know this person let it slip to report them. Other then that, they can't say anything (not openly anyway). It hurts everyone.

Pure discrimination. I can't believe it's 2009 and we're still having problems with people accepting people for who they are.

Meh, all this means to me is that if I ever get drafted, I going to run around wearing a rainbow shirt saying "I'm gay".

No, not from experience. I am assuming/thinking of people I know in real life who were/are in the U.S armed forces.

The military runs over a strict "Don't ask, Don't tell" policy, it may seem fucked up, but homosexuality should not be a concern or matter in war.

Wrong. This is pretty much the same ideology as was taken in WW2. White soldiers felt more comfortable having their private confinements separate from blacks, so the Supreme Court ruled that whatever made white people most comfortable should go. This is basically the same thing, granting superiority to heterosexuals over homosexuals, who should be allowed to be in the army if they want to; they can't help the fact that they're gay and it should be a free country. The want to separate is mostly built on biases and conformity to already unfair conditions. EVERYONE in this country needs to have civil rights. Currently the statement, "it's a free country", isn't true yet.
