The "IF" you were hacked rule

My second feedback thread, lets all clap. Down to srs busniess now, the Sythe.org rule: - If your account is hacked, and the hacker uses your account to scam materials from another member, you, as the account owner, are responsible for refunding those who were scammed by the hacker in order to be unbanned. Although the refuding generally results in an unban, this is at the staff's discretion.

That's some gayyyyyyyy shit, we all know websites get hacked and databases get leaked, etc. This forum has been hacked like 9,000,001 times. It's just countless, and every time this forum has been hacked the database gets leaked! FML!11!

Now, lets use my great friend 'Cfrey' as an example. What if the forum gets hacked and Cfrey's password was cracked, and the culprit went on his account and scammed someone. Cfrey was obviously not here, and was on vacation in Africa, his homeland obviousy! cus dat nigz black.

So, why the FUCK WOULD HE have to pay the fucking numnut who got scammed?

It is your responsibility to safegaurd your password and never give it out. Also, be sure to never click on links to websites from people that you do not know as they may be linking you to a virus that installs on your computer.

Read the thread smart one. He said if the database gets hacked. That is not the user's fault.

I believe if the database were to be hacked, (which it has), there will be many announcements stressing that you CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD, therefore, if hacked, it would be your fault for not paying attention to the announcement.

If the database were to be hacked, i'm sure there would be percautions on what to do. Also, how would the hacker obtain the E-mail of Cfrey?

    Agreed ^

I don't know of any accounts being hacked due to Sythe's database being stolen. If such a thing were to occur, it would not be the users' responsibility to repay the scammed items, since they would have obviously had no control over it.

However, that is the only instance where they would be excused. If they used the same password here and on Rsbot, and Rsbot's database were to be hacked, they would be responsible for negligence.

The reason the rule exists is to prevent people from pretending to be hacked, or 'renting out' their account to another user to scam with.

SMART FACE, there's something called changing the email?

He could obviously scam until cfrey returns back and posts a thread in the dispute forum!

You're also failing to read that cfrey was on vacation of the time the forum was getting hacked!

i feel as if this is a troll thread, and should not be taken seriously... That rule is completely acceptable, and it is to protect buyers.

Thanks for your comment too bad you are temp banned.

Anyways I don't know about you but I for sure do not use the same password to all the websites go to, and no one should ever really do that. Also there are several steps sythe and other steps take to prevent these things.

    Sythe
    Fagex
    RSbot

Just about all these sites have had database leaked, but really there are not real issues as they handled in a good way.

You left something off your list there Cfrey.

Yeah, there's no definite way to know who was hacked by someone having the database, or who was "hacked by someone having the database". Application of this would cause major problems. Don't use the same password everywhere, and watch what you do, then you'll be fine.

We need to change the minimum password length to maybe 10? It's to help us be more secure.

Why should we force them to be secure?

Anyway, I think the rule should stand.

Actually it's possible to get your password stolen through email.

If you reply to an email, the hacker may be able to steal your password. Here's what happened to me:

    1) Someone emailed me asking for Sythe help. >_>
    2) I genuinely thought it was someone who needed help, and I replied "What help do you need?"
    3) The next day, he manages to hack into [email protected]. This account was linked to my Sythe account, and I used it to register.
    4) Hacker resets password, and gets on my account. Luckily, I realized quickly enough and got Giddy to ban it before the hacker scammed anything.

Just a quick warning and a possible way of being hacked.

    Flaming is a horrible thing.

Anyway, Sin has already pointed out the ONLY exception to this rule, which seems to be the point in this thread. So to prevent anymore spam/flaming....
