    4 Dimensions of health.

    Dimensions of Health

The dimensions of health are interactions between different aspects of life, that balance to produce well being and satisfaction.

There are 4 dimensions of health that need to be balanced in order to be 'healthy'.
    A major misconception about health is;

"If I am physically slim, and I feel like I’m physically healthy, and I eat all the correct foods. Then doesn't that mean I’m healthy?"

    The answer is NO.

In order to be healthy: You're Physical, Social, Mental/Emotional and Spiritual Health all need to be well balanced.

    1. Physical health:

    - Wellness of body & absence of chronic pain/discomfort.
    - Efficient functioning of body organs
    - Level of fitness
    - Nutritional status
    - Degree of energy
    - Body weight
    - Resistance to disease
    - Heredity & genetics make up physical potential but our physical health is determined by our lifestyle & behavior

    2. Social health:

    - Ability to interact with people (family, friends, others) in independent & appropriate way
    - Form & maintain personal relationships
    - Assert personal beliefs regardless of influence of peers & retain own personality & values.

    3. Mental/Emotional health:

    - Relates to how we feel about ourselves, how we express our emotions, how we adapt to range of demands.
    - Self-concept (way we see ourselves), self-confidence & self-esteem.
    - Feelings of accomplishment & success
    - Ability to make decisions to resolve problems
    - Capacity to function productively in society without exhibiting personally & socially disruptive behavior.

    4. Spiritual health:

    - Relates to sense of purpose & meaning in our life & feeling connected with others (family, peers, community) & society.
    - Ideas, values, morals & aspirations influence spiritual health
    - Relates to our ability to set realistic goals, appreciate needs & feelings of others, & have ambitions & aspirations.

    -----------------------------------------------------

    • Our individual health is an interaction between these 4 dimensions.
    • Health is continually changing.
    • Breakdown in one aspect can impact on other aspects.

      Ways of being healthy

    • Individual is considered healthy when 4 dimensions of health are balanced.
    • Individual is primarily responsible for decisions they make about their own health.
    • Nutrition, physical activity, drug use & relationships have greatest impacts on health for young people.
    • Individual factors – lifestyle, behaviors, attitude, beliefs, hereditary potential.
    • Environmental factors – physical, economic, social & political conditions under which we live.
    • Health is dynamic, which means the aspects of health are always changing.
    • Not simply longevity (long life) or absence of disease, but also quality of life (adding life to years).
    • Epidemiology – study of disease & illness trends across large scale populations to identify broad risk factors.
    • Health promotion – process of enabling people to increase control over & to improve their health.
    • Health is relative to others & ourselves over time.

    4 Dimensions of health.

Is it be unhealthy to purposefully avoid people in general and attempt to be a loner? Is it unhealthy to change ones opinions on anything based on the current situation?

Anyways. I didn't read the whole thing. I skimmed it but it seems to be a decent guide. Better than many others. I liked the use of pictures to separate things. It makes it look a lot nicer. Good job.

Thanks. And yes. You'll find many people without friends or companionship tend to have psychological problems. And to be healthy you're 4 dimensions of health must be balanced.

You may want to fix that bullet :)

Over all you actually did a good job at making this guide. One thing that stood out to me, as it was something I thought you would do, is that you didn't combine spirituality and religion, as they are two very different things. A lot of people have the common misconception that they are the same.

I liked the guide and it was interesting to read. Good job.

    Sweet as guide :)

We learnt this information in Health and Human Development class, right before I dropped it. Haha.

Anyways, great use of colors, text, and pictures. Looks awesome and attractive. I actully learnt some new information about this topic, that I didn't learn in school :)

    Thanks for this!

    4 Dimensions of health.

Your view on spiritual health is different than the one we're taught in health class in school (we learn the exact four points you've talked bout), they try to tell us that believing in a "higher being" is key to being spiritually healthy, which I thought was ridiculous because an atheist no less healthy than a believer. I like the way you portrayed it, good guide.
