The big bad people who manipulate us to elect them of course. Video games are indeed regulated; you can't buy a M rated game until your 18.

I really don't like how everyone here likes to make regulation black and white, when in reality, it's really not. Drugs aren't the same as fast food, and your liberty here isn't your liberty there.

Merely trying to cite the grounds of jurisdiction.

He is one of MANY experts, who just happens to share your opinion. Citing it does add credibility and clarity to your argument, but it's a horrible way to tell everyone else is wrong. I could just as easily find a credible "expert" who will say the opposite. As a matter of fact, most senior political analysts would probably be in favor of at least SOME regulation(or they probably wouldn't have jobs haha).

Meh, still confused what you mean by "even" and still unsure if you know his political background.

The DEA DOES take measures when considering the legalization of drugs and it's effect upon bystanders. I still think their reasoning is a bit irrelevant to the debate.

See: "Does marijuana harm anyone besides the individual who smokes it?"

Drugs shouldn't be illegal, its how you use them that is the problem.

Really? You're honestly that naive to believe that the wealthiest people in the world, who now control nearly every aspect of the global economy and will soon own you as well, have your best interests in mind even though it does not benefit them in any way?

You SHOULD have the right to do what you want to your body. The only reason those laws are in place is because its there to prevent children from using them. They realise that they can't stop addicts from taking it.

The point is people, the government can't protect your from yourself, this is evident of all drug laws. People still do meth, and people still do heroin, so the government isn't really doing anything to protect you, they just punish you when they catch you doing it. The only thing that can protect you from yourself is you, and the best way to do that is through education. I'm pretty sure if most meth addicts knew the true potential and effects of the drug before they first started using it, then they would never even go near it.

Why stop at regulation? I demand that these people ban any form of entertainment that might cause the viewer to violate other people's rights. This way, restrictions on drugs won't be both immoral and hypocritical. I think immoral is enough, don't you?

    http://www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/publications/drugfact/american_users_spend2002/index.html

The fact that all that money spent on drugs in the last 21 years was untaxed is just one reason why drugs are illegal. Due to the fact that the selling and distribution of drugs is almost always linked to other illegal crimes and is gang related makes the government unable to tax them.

Drugs are also illegal because they alter peoples minds and many of them are highly addictive and expensive. So when people run out of money and the drug they will do anything to get more, including stealing, robbing, and causing harm to others.

Well yeah, how do you tax something that is illegal to buy or sell?
Don't you think that maybe the reason why drugs are linked to violence is because they are illegal?

    Voluntary interactions suck, huh.

    Wrong.
It's not how you use them, it's IF you use them.

People grew up with the mindset of drugs being a negative. It being brainwashed into them will make it so that even if someone stands up for it, even if it is an obstruction of freedom, they won't join them.

Also, I agree with Freedom. The drug is an obstruction of the person's freedom. Drugs had a 16% involvement in suicidal deaths.

Dude, is your head on straight? You realize you can't tax something that's illegal, drugs aren't illegal because they can't be taxed, they can be taxed if they were legal. If you make drugs legal, all gangs will die because they won't have a source of revenue, and crime will go down severely. Ask any gang member or drug dealer, they support the illegality of all drugs, because that is how they make their money.

You realize oxycontin is one of the most addictive substances out there and it has ruined people's lives, and yet is being subscribed to patients by their doctors. The reason drugs are expensive is because they are illegal, them being illegal means they are harder to get and produce. I'm sorry but you are a fucking idiot man, stop posting stupid idiotic shit, get the fuck off the internet, and actually think about some of this shit instead of thinking you are fucking smart.

"The government doesn't want you to use YOUR drugs, they want you to use THEIR drugs."

Um, last time I checked, the drug didn't choose to be put into a human. The drug is just sitting there doing nothing, until someone CHOOSES to take the drug. So according to your logic, the drug taker is obstructing his own freedom. A simple education on drugs can prevent this from happening.

And you do realize that drug laws are also an obstruction of a person's freedom... Smart guy you are eh?

Teenagers are especially stupid. No amount of education is going to stop that. Drugs don't just sit there, they are marketed out by the gangs trying to sell them. And yes, I have no doubt stupidity can obstruct one's own freedom. There's nothing contradictory about that.

Regarding gang violence, I would agree that laws, not drugs, are the source.

If the person took a drug ill-informed, then he/she would have no reason to decline an offer of drugs. And once it's in they're system and he/she likes it, then the drug is accumulating more of the drug in your body and has taken away your freedom.

Teenagers aren't stupid, they like to take risks. And I say, if they like to live a risky life, then let them suffer the consequences. That is the only way to make them more careful about things. Saying "you can't do this" and "you can't do that" will only make them want to do it more.

Making a drug illegal is also taking away your freedom.

So how is it fair to take away the freedom of people who do the drug at home and never harm anyone, because of a small amount of people who do the drug and go rob people?

Yup. If I wanted to chug a bottle of Captain Morgan and die of alcohol poisoning, then it would be completely my fault.
