How to rap ;)

Hey all, I'm looking to join the UE team so here is my first guide:

I’m going to teach you all how to make a decent rap, and I don't mean the one that you eat.

Step 1.

Before anyone should attempt writing a rap, or spitting freestyle - it would be a good thing to think about everything you can, no matter how random.
I.e. My thoughts before a rap could; be the words:

Indoctrinate.
Elephant.
Bent.
Cheese.
Suspended.





Then I can put em together:


*** I’m the size of an elephant, you better believe
Grate cheese on my abs you better conceive.
Wanna try me?, get down on you're knees,
Coz once I beat u down, you’ll learn how to bleed.

*Takes a deep breath*

The way through teaching is indoctrination,
And ill publicly announce this, to the whole nation.
I'm sittin at home but not masturbatin,
Coz' you're moms on top of me, doing cheese grating

So don’t doubt my raps ill have u suspended,
From the top of a tree, your shirt will be blended,
with the colour of blood I’ll have your face rendered
So if you ignore me from now on I won’t be offended. ***

Step 2.

To be able to put a decent rap together - It is important to start small. A very good tip is; learning how to put simple small words that rhyme together.

E.g.

Cat - Mat.
Shower - Flower.
Spraying - Laying.





Now ill put it together.


*** The cat smelled a flower
Chilling and laying.
When the doormat got thrown,
The shower got spraying. ***

It is Simple, but it's a start. Not all of your rhymes have to make 100% sense. A great example of this is Eminem or Bizarre from D12.

Step 3.

Once you have basic rhyming knowledge.
And you know how to do a basic rhyming - Then it's time for the Format. There are two parts to the format: ' Poetry Rhyming' and ' Constant Rhyming '.

Poetry Rhyming:
Whereby there is ONE rhyming word at the end of each sentence i.e.:

On the top of a hill, sat a young boy
He liked to play racing, with all his toys
But one sad day, a man came to him.
And stole all the toys, and made use of the bin.



Constant rhyming:
Whereby you flow multiple rhymes in a sentence or paragraph (instead of just at the end of the sentence.) This can be effective, if used well. i.e.:


I sat by a tree , I beg and plea.
For you to act free , and jump in the sea.
So listen to me , and I won't break your knee
Into three different pieces -
coz I’m the greatest MC.

The best rappers are able to combine both.
Here are a set of 7 rhyming words; which I will use to combine both methods and make a rap:

Pathetic
Kinetic
Genetic
Synthetic
Poetic
Sympathetic
Trick


*** Yo, my raps give off heat, it must be kinetic.
Don’t try to keep up, you're attempts are pathetic.
You keep tryna' flow, but it just sounds synthetic.
I was born like this way; so it must be genetic.

So am I poetic?, or am I pu-lling tricks.
You judge for your self, don't be sympathetic. ***

And there you have it. Try you’re best, and be as creative as you can. I will try adding to this guide whenever I can - or when I gain more experience. Anyways. I hope you people like it, as I spent 2 - 3 hours writing it.

You're correct on majority of the stuff. I'd say to people to keep away from the simple words, most of the time they'll turn into a boring line that will be look at as a filler.

Depending on the nature of the rapping, if it's a battle of a topical. You want to make sure you've got the right style before going in. Rap battles you want to go hard, every line. There's no time to build up to a big punch line, each and every one has to be on point and have meaning behind it.

Topical verses can be taken a little bit differently. You have time to build up, which is probably a good idea. You need to use descriptive words and set the scene, so people can connect with what you're saying.

I don't want to write a whole bunch of stuff in your guide because it was well written. I'll end it there.

This is surprisingly one of the only rap guides (I've looked at a few before), that made sense and was interesting. I personally dislike rap more than any other music, I just don't like it, but the guide is well written and it sounds to me like you know a great deal about rapping.

Anyone interested in rapping should read this. 9/10.
