Why do people think god is a person?

Seriously. It baffles me. God isn't some dude with robes and a white beard. He isn't human. He isn't even a physical object. The idea of god is a force. God is energy and rules. You could liken god to the laws of the universe that hold everything together. God is gravity. God is thermodynamics. To represent god as a physical father is narrow minded and stupid.


Now that we've established that god is a force, why do you Christians INSIST you are the only ones in touch with this force? You say yourself there is only one god. Ok, good. Listen to what you are saying. If there is only one god, the religions you criticize are also worshiping the ONE god. According to you there is a single force, so how is it possible people worship Allah or mother nature while not worshiping the same ONE AND ONLY force you do? It doesn't make sense. I think what Jesus was trying say was that this simpleton feuding we are STILL doing is wrong. There is only one god, and this one god can be worshiped in many different ways.


Science worshipers, you aren't excluded from this. The universe/multiverse is infinite and fits together just so. If you are able to appreciate the way evolution and the formation of planets works, you are admiring "god." Actually, that brings me to one last point I wanted to make - my interpretation on "god."


During a DMT trip I had I was blessed to be able to remove my ego see the "face" of god. This "face" of god is really just the universe(multiverse really) viewed as a single object. I saw everyone and everything, each little molecule acting as a pixel on a cosmic screen. I even saw myself (which caused some interesting effects I can't really explain, lol) in this "screen." I really like the pixel analogy because that's essentially what it is. On this website, one pixel is just a blue or white dot. It means nothing. BUT - when you look at all of the pixels on the screen, you see a picture. These insignificant dots take on new meaning. God is all of us, and we are part of god.

Short version - God is what happens when you look at the universe and apply Gestalt Psychology. The sum is more than just the sum of its parts.

My religious opinions aside, are you saying that god is everything and everything is god? Doesn't that make us god? If so, does that mean people pray to themselves? And if they're praying to themselves it means only they can answer their own prayers, and obviously people pray for things that they can't do on their own so how does that work?

 

Yes and no. Gestalt psychology is based around the idea that an object (generally perception) is more than the sum of its parts. God is everything, yes, and we are a part of god, but no it doesn't "make" us god. We are gods in a sense. I mean we're conscious and can knowingly create. When you sing, for example, you change the wave we're living in. When you draw you do the same thing. I think that's what "made in god's image" refers to personally.


I'm not saying we're god in the omnipotent sense that most people think of when they use the term. I think that god is an infinite, eternal force that is absolutely fundamental to the nature of existence. There never was anything before god, and it's fundamentally impossible for there to be anything but this collective force. I don't think it's unreasonable to assume the multiverse, when acting like a single thing and not just a group of things, has its own consciousness either. I'd imagine it would be self aware and take on some pretty powerful abilities.

 

Finally, I thought I was the only one who saw things this way. I myself am a pantheist and think that God is everything that the universe consists of. I made a thread here a long time ago that brought me to this conclusion. What I did was compared religious beliefs to atheist beliefs, and found that they are alike. Religious people believe that God causes everything to happen, like if an asteroid hits your house, that's an act of God. But if an atheist had an asteroid fall on his house, he would think it is just a random rock falling from the sky and it just happened to hit his house because the forces of the universe caused it to fall there. So basically religious people and atheists believe in the same thing, but they just have a different approach to it and they treat it differently.

When I told this to people, they just thought I was stupid because I was making a parallel between God and the universe, and it pissed me off because they all believed that God meant some person in the sky that sent you to hell and heaven. And they couldn't even look past the fact that I was calling the universe God and see what I was really trying to say.

This is one of the reasons I moved on from atheism to pantheism, atheists are way too close minded.

 

According to some religions, God talks and have kids. He "watches over us". That sort of God has led to that perception. It's really not baffling at all.

Most other religions also associate God/gods with substantial figures of power.

 

You can't make that assumption about all atheists - atheists belong to no organized group, and they have no common beliefs aside from not believing in god.

You know what you did there? This is the equivalent of saying everyone is part of a whole, but I am not personally is not part of the whole. You cannot have two contradicting thoughts made into one argument.

You don't even have to be Jesus to know this is wrong.

What I meant is, most atheists that I know go by this logic: if there is no empirical proof, then it doesn't exist. And that is what I don't agree with. Were there no atoms before we finally found evidence for them? No, they were always there. I chose pantheism because it is more spiritual and goes beyond just looking at the physical world.

 

I don't go by empirical proof. I listen to what's reasonable. God, in all senses of the word, isn't.

 

God is the God what made Earth.
It is a BIG great Man.

I suppose Catholics, like me, believe that God is a man because of the bible. Somewhere in the says :

And God created man in his own image.

So therefore, God is a man. For Catholics at least.

 

god is a word that basically means energy

it cannot be created, it cannot be destroyed, everything is made of energy, existance cannot be without energy, and in saying that, energy is existance.

If you want to pray, drink a redbull cos its full of god!

I don't think its much like that, people refer to god as a father figure, more of a representative sort of thing. I don't think people literally think that god is a person.

 

Why not? Don't the believe the Bible?
