Jagex said 500 were banned and 1000 more were to be at a later date.

    Quite a few. Maybe 500+

Jagex attacked cheating communities for being misinformed the other day. It's true, especially right now, with all the hype caused by Jagex's article, and knowing a little about macro detection, I thought I'd try and help extract some information from the misinformation.

First of all, using reflection in macro software is detectable, I wish it wasn't, it would make my life easier, but there's no denying that. Reflecting on a field (reading data) alone is undetectable sure, but the problem is a bot doesn't just reflect on data, it REACTS to it. It involves work on Jagex's part, they need to research, learn what fields you are reflecting on, and HOW the bot will react, but once Jagex know that, all they would need to do is send 'spoof' data (data that is not consistent with what's drawn on the screen), knowing how your bot will react. This kind of detection system takes a bit of effort to produce, and because it's probably going to be included in the server code a long time, possibly even the rest of RS's existence, this kind of detection system has to be spread out like a random event to reduce overheads, there may be a filtering process, but more likely it can happen to any player, perfoming a particular activity. You could bot a few days without facing this cruical test, or face it within 10 minutes, depending on how frequent Jagex set it up. If you fail this test, you will see what looks like your bot messing up, and Jagex will know beyond doubt you are botting.

Using mouse splines to control the mouse is detectable, why? Because if Jagex know the parameters within which you created the splines (a case of reverse engineering), they can reverse the process easily to calculate whether a set of movements were created by this algorithm. When you report a player, a snapshot of mouse movement is recorded, any bot out there where reports commonly lead to bans, most likely, uses mouse movement algorithms that Jagex know how to detect.

Scriptable bots are detectable, why? Again, it comes down to reverse engineering. Some scripts and bots are even open source, and have only a few hundred lines of code. After learning how your bot 'thinks' it's not too hard to separate the script from a human player, by monitering details of in-game activity, and it's a process that can be automated and programmed into Jagex's detection software.

I'm not just being a doom and gloom merchant though. People can get away with using bots I would describe as detectable, and even get 99 skills, but success rates may be nowhere near 100%. And there is a scale of detectability, some bots are more difficult to detect than others, depending on how well the programmer understands the challenges they face in RuneScape.

If it was true Jagex could detect 'all' bots as easily as they make out, the best way to put people off botting would be to just ban 'all' the rule breakers, right? If they could do that, there would be no need for such articles.

To their credit, Jagex have successfully banned thousands of accounts from various botting communities, but even a few botting communities using easily detectable software, haven't been affected, and although Jagex are quick to give themselves praise, in my opinion, it would have taken an intelligent, competant programmer, about a week to design and implement a mass detection system for one in particular of the bots targetted, yet it's now been about a year since that bot was released... But Jagex are reluctant to admit to anything that paints them in a bad light on their website. Would the same guys who censor any forum post that makes Jagex look even remotely bad, give you an honest, play-by-play account of their action against macro software? No, they wouldn't. Are Jagex infallible, and capable of stopping any person who uses macro software? No they are not, they have not, and they will not.

A few people have asked how safe RID is to use now, and after reviewing Jagex's actions over the past few days (or lack of), I think it's now safe to confirm the only way to be detected while using RID, is to break RID guidelines. RID is a serious program, it is designed to be impossible to detect by any automated detection process, it does not make any of the common mistakes listed above. With Jagex struggling to even pick off the weakest macro software, it's safe to say no RID member has to worry about this macro system update, and it's unlikely we will need to worry about any future update either. So far since MT4 was released we have maintained a 100% success rate for those who follow our guidelines, and I wouldn't have even noticed there was a macro system update if you guys hadn't mentioned it. But any RID member who wants to wait a bit longer before passing judgement, I understand, but it's been 3 days now... and after seeing what happened to other communities, it seems clear, nothing has changed for us after the macro system update.

Wow, very nice shpiel. But as long as reflection is only used for pathing it appears to be safe Atm (there have been 0 reported bans from scionbot) but if you use it for everything, like ibot does, you're done. RID is not currently the only functional bot, but with a little effort from jagex it could get to that point.

lol where the hell do you get your info from? Ibot is undetected bc it edits nothing. Only scripts can be detected. ScionBot im pretty sure edited reflections like rsbot...

Hehe, you're very clueless. RSBots injects, Scionbot just reads from the RS.jar and checks out what's already in there without touching it. The issues is if Jagex puts fake information in the jar to fool the bot (As far as I know I'm correct)

Guys, keep this topic on RID only, not Scionbot, iBot or RSBot.

That's bull. Sorry, but it is. Firstly, all reflection does is find the data. That's it. Whatever "reaction" you are talking about is simply passing the information to a script, which is not detectable at all (how could it be?). Secondly, you have no way of knowing this AT ALL, so without proof, this claim is untrue.

There is no way of knowing weather or not it is true or not, but it could be.

I agree Jimmy. Like I said, it's not injecting; Jagex could dick with reflection with significant effort but it's very unlikely

Why read the data if you're not going to use it? By reading the non-visual data that is there (IE IDs, objects, etc), you are leaving a hole in which jagex can stuff fake information. The bot REACTS to the data it reads. If it sees the ID for the door, it opens the door. Jagex can spoof 100,000 fake doors that your bot's script will try to open.

This is just an example - there is no proof they are doing this, but RiD is 100% correct in his statement that they CAN do this.

Indeed. It may not be implemented yet, but it COULD be. All bots that read client data other than the visual cues visible to a real player ARE potentially detectable - this does not mean, however, that they are detected at current.

jagex can stuff whatever the hell they want in their data that is not visible ingame as far as i know. and by reacting to that data jagex can conclude that you are using some program to read and use that data, in other words a macro software.

fake data recieved -> your bot reacts to it

correct me if im totally off here.
