2020 U.S. Presidential Election

No we're still not at that stage considering Trump's lawsuits haven't been decided on by the courts yet, if it does turn out there's been instances of voter ballots being counted incorrectly / perhaps illegally then we could absolutely see changes in the final state counts (however whether it would equal Trump getting to 270 after all is another matter altogether). Remember what happened in the 2000 US Presidential election.

"Civil war" might be a bit over the top but if Trump does overturn the election result and wins then I doubt Democrat supporters are just going to sit in their homes and do nothing about it.

 

When 50% of the nation voted for you, you lose, and you publicize the litigation of the very establishment that put you in office 4 years prior, you’re inspiring your avid supporters with those actions and validating your claim in the minds of millions for the simple fact that you THINK you have a case in court. It doesn’t matter how it’s decided in court, if it mattered then the impeachment trial wouldn’t have been casted as an effort to overturn the election. Yet it was. So bringing the ballot counting to court is already the start of the same bullshit the losing side is turning to to illigitimize the elections.

Well this is all still going, tonight Trump protestors have stormed the Capitol building in DC. They've had to deploy literally every law enforcement agency in the state to go down there and re-gain control.

I'm sure they expected a large protest but I don't think anybody would have predicted people storming the Capitol building and walking through the halls.

I just cant at the moment. Take the loss mang that's all I can say. I mean lets be honest if the majority of those protestors were people of color lets just say the outcome wouldn't be rioters sitting in chairs snapping selfies. Would be more like rubber bullets, tear gas, dogs, batons beating the shit out of people etc. In my personal opinion this is a prime example of white privilege. Not to mention people replacing the American flag with Donald Trump flags .... its pitiful and sad very bad showing for the American democracy. That's why ima just stay my happy ass in Canada.

Look at the difference between this protest and the BLM movements. Law enforcement are a lot more brutal to people of color and it's disgraceful.
I am also Canadian and proud to be that.
Today was a sad day for America. People are blindly following a fraud who is ironically crying fraud before this election ever happened.

Wake up America and move on from the last 4 years and move forward before you go down the path to your second Civil War.

 

Alot of other States got hit also. What a bad day for the US. If anyone thought it would help Trump's case, It didn't and instead made a lot of Republicans turn their backs on Trump.

While there was certainly a riot, I wouldn't call it "looting" and going into a government building and standing around for a few hours compared to the BLM protests of smashing up and burning down countless shops is quite a big difference.

If protesters were burning down and smashing up your local business for something completely unrelated vs some people walking into a government building and standing around for a few hours then I think you would prefer the latter. The amount of damage the Capitol Hill riot is nothing compared to all the damage the BLM riots did last year, how many businesses and shops were burned down for a completely unrelated incident? Maybe look at what each group did rather than just jumping straight into "but this group is white and this group is not". There were white people involved in the BLM riots too you know.


Anyway, given social media is shutting down all of Trump's accounts until January 20th I would say we're either in for a peaceful transition or if Trump is THAT pissed then we may see the Insurrection Act being used. I can't see Pence pushing through an impeachment for Trump at this point.

Yes you are correct the BLM protests did cause a lot more damage.

The point is that both protests included people damaging and going places where they’re not meant to be.

The protests on the capitol were in no way a peaceful protest although they didn’t cause as much damage as the BLM did.

Considering both protests were not peaceful protests the BLM protesters were still handled a lot more harshly than the Capitol protests and some of that likely is because people during the BLM movements are afraid of police, afraid of what they’re saying and what kind of action the police may take towards them because in reality, they were protesting police brutality.

The police were not the target of the Capitol protest and that also has a part to play in how law enforcement were reacting.

 

What a great legacy this guy leaves behind. The death of 5 in our capital building caused by him and his ilk. Insane.

 

You've always been dumb @Laptop65 , but I chalked it up to adolescence and ignorance. You grew up to be an even more idiotic adult, apparently. There definitely is a difference. One is rioting that black people are being murdered while they sleep in their beds, circumstances that have been consistent for 200+ years. The other is rioting because they want to subvert the democratic foundation of the country, defy constitutional process, and stop a free and fair election as certified by congress and every state in the union, and is only contested by the one man (and his radical followers) slated to lose. All for a disgusting dude whose name these people probably learned 5 years ago.

It's morbidly hilarious to me that "patriotism" leads you to break into, steal from, and murder inside your nation capitol.

 

The BLM protests were handled a lot more harshly because innocent people's businesses and homes were being destroyed by thugs. How exactly is that going to end racism in the United States? We even saw riots in other countries across the world, imagine fighting with the police for a completely unrelated incident in a different continent. If I was a rioter smashing up "mom and pa" businesses then I'd be more concerned of action taken against me for it rather than running round the Capitol building and taking selfies all day.

Let's not forget all the people breaking into stores and running out with goods. Seems stealing expensive tech products is going to help stop racism now too? A considerable portion of the BLM riots was just lower-class individuals looking for a scrap-up and an excuse to break into stores and get free stuff, because "fuck the white man" right?

As for the Capitol building, yes the cops were not the target and the goal was to get inside the building and try and stop the counting (while dumb as it may be, their target was still not to hurt anybody).

Resorting to personal insults just screams "I've lost the argument" by the way.

I am not denying there is a racism problem in the US, but we cannot assume every time a black person is shot is because that they were black. If I'm a cop trying to arrest a black person, they run to their car and reach for something, am I going to wait for them to pull out a handgun and kill me? Or am I going to use lethal force to stop the potential threat? I don't know about you but I'm pretty sure most cops would like to go home to their families at the end of their shift, not go to a hospital or end up 6 feet under. Let's not forget about similar incidents that happen to white people, but for some reason white people never get covered in the news even if the cop may have been unjust in blowing them away?

The Capitol riot while dumb was still sending a message that if you piss the people off enough, then generally there will always be the possibility they can overthrow whoever is in power (just need enough numbers). Granted the riot in this case was for a stupid reason, but hopefully it will show the people at the top that at the end of the day they serve the people and that can very quickly changed if things get out of hand.

As for the pictures you linked, the smashed windows and so on while still unacceptable is a drop in the ocean compared to the damage the BLM riots caused. The Capitol building will be covered by the taxpayer, however the innocent people's businesses that have been destroyed will all have to be paid for by the every-day people that own them.

Finally, I imagine very little was actually looted from the building. The nutcase running round with the speaker's podium I doubt would have been able to get that outside the building without being stopped.
