My computer has been acting up so I wanted to format the C drive, a 1TB Samsung 870 EVO, yet every time I attempt to it says "It contains versions of windows you are using" you cannot format this drive.

    How do I fix this?

Slap gparted on a USB and boot onto the USB.

Website instructions should be pretty self-explanatory but if you need help feel free to reply or PM me and I can help over discord or something.

It sounds to me like you're trying to format the drive from WITHIN windows. Get a flash drivve with at least 8GB. Use the Microsoft Media Creation Tool and it will create a bootable drive to install windows 10. It will give you the format options within there once you boot off the drive.

@Godshero0 as the other people are saying, you are most probably trying to format while BOOTED into windows.

In order to solve this do as follows:

    1. Get hold of a USB thumbstick with at least 8GB (You will be formatting this so make sure you have no useful data)
    2. Download the Official Windows Media Creation tool - https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209
    3. Run the Tool and Follow until Completion.
    4. Turn off your Computer --> Insert the USB Drive --> Pull up Boot Options (Depends on your Motherboard but normally pressing F12 | F10 | F2 Repeatedly Does the trick)
    5. Once on Boot Options select the USB Drive You just prepared.
    6. From here onwards follow the setup (as if you are re-installing windows, yes) once at the Select Device make sure you format and delete all partitions and voila formatted!
    7. Continue the Setup to re-install windows too :)
