How long do you think the game has left?

The current playerbase is early-mid 20s. So 6-10 years when were all in early 30s and naturally leave the game.

 

Most people say 6-10 years, idk I meet a ton of people that game at work. So I think 10-15 years, it also depends if any sort of game Renaissance happens

yeah agree at least 5, 10 would be pushing it i'd think

 

I'd say longer.. look at wow its nearly 20 years old and its still going and there is also lots of botters and gold farmers. If there is lots of people still playing it I doubt they will stop it unless people start to stop playing

 

I reckon the game has another decade left before you begin to notice a decline in actual player activity the younger generation are now into fortnite and pretty much the graphics for osrs is not appealing to them, rs3 may have a chance but then again the osrs player base is far larger i have 2 younger siblings and have tried to get them to try RuneScape they simply were not interested

 

I've been expecting this game's downfall since God knows when and it's still up and running.

 

I'd venture a guess and say a large % of the OSRS player-base are those players that played from classic-2007, and from 2011-until the return of OSRS. Once those players who returned finally leave, I can't see the game sustaining itself for years to come. Unsure what the exact stats are, but I doubt there are many 'new' players, who play OSRS. Although, apparently OSRS mobile release brought quite a few actual new players to the game, but whether that was sustained, I doubt it.

 

5-10yrs max imo considering most who play this game were born in the 90's. I don't plan on playing this til I'm 40+ yrs old on a daily basis as most won't

 

I can see it continuing for much longer as it's mostly an afk-game on the side. The majority of people just grind all day without even really paying attention to what they're doing. Like even during worktime I can click on rocks at mlm once every 30 seconds, or click a redwood once every 2 minutes, or catch karambwans.

Truth be told I think a lot of players arent even really interested in the end-game PvE stuff. I mean it's cool to do some corrupted gauntlet or raids but I bet most people spend 1000's of hours grinding to then fight a boss they get bored from after 100 kills.

 

True, I have a decent account, 99s in afk skills and 90s or so in most others I could afk. I've done some end game pve stuff but it's just something to do while at work since it's so monotonous at job. No interest in Cox or any of the end game jazz. Just wanna chill and build the account. Soul wars is fun though

 

Runescape has always filled a niche within the MMORPG community.

Why OSRS is surviving and thriving:

1. OSRS is a game loved because it allows people to progress slowly without the need/dependent for group interaction. Unlike MMO like World of Warcraft that require strict raiding and arena scheduling in order to access end game content, OSRS has a sandbox gameplay that lets busy people pick up and play whenever they have time. So it’s ideal for “dad gamers” or university students.

2. due to the basic mechanics, the game doesn’t follow super skill driven ability to access end game content or flex prestigious accomplishments. Think about it, the most prestigious items in OSRS are locked behind time played, rather than skill. Of course there a few exceptions (inferno). The truth is, if you play long enough, you will hit some big milestones no matter how you play.

3. The accessibility mobile provides is amazing. Most games turn console/ pc games into mobile games, OSRS turned its PC game into a mobile game with full access. You can access all content on mobile, and play beside a PC player. The barrier to entry lowered a lot.

Jagex needs to bring new players in for sure or the game will die
