How do they know you botting or not botting

Just wanted to ask how does their macro system detection work.. Like I'm not botting but I'm at sand crabs and have been on and off for 10 hours or so.. I'm using runelites tile markers to mark the attack spot and the reset spot.. I run back and forth to the same spot over and over and over and hardly touch the screen apart from changing the attack styles. To me I look like a bot in my movements so how would they know if I'm a bot or not?

you might think that you look like botting, yes, probably in the perspective of other players. But on Jagex's side, whereas their system can see your cursor movements, your clicks, and things like your habits in general, it's easy to say on their side that you're most probably not a bot.

From experience with ghost mouse and recordings on loop i believe jagex record your mouse movements for a set time and if they repeat = bot, I've had bans with loops around 5 minutes but i've done hundreds of hours with loops 15-20 minutes no problem

I was watching evscape on youtube and he was perm banned while playing for macro "major" botting yet he wasn't. he couldn't appeal it but he was lucky cause he was a streamer and the mods new of him so they unbanned him but he said if he wasn't a streamer he would be banned for no reason at all.. So if their bot detection banned a person not botting and I'm sure others have had it happen before also I doubt it's only the mouse detection. Like what if you played the account half the time without a bot and then used a bot for the other half..like hand playing for 2 hours and botting for 2.. How would they know the difference

No one ever said, nor has Jagex claimed that there bot detection system is flawless. Think of it like airport security. Will the metal detectors pick up EVERY harmful object? No.. Will it SOMETIMES wrongfully detect harmless objects? Yes...

Jagex has to balance creating and maintaining a bot detection system given there limited resources, and clearly they are ok with 99.9% of people they ban for botting actually being bots at the expense of the 0.1% that are wrongfully banned (this is hyperbole).

From my experience, With a large sample size of playtime over a long period of time it is extremely easy to spot a bot. Bots tend to click within two random variables. Even random variables become obvious when the standard deviation does not change over multiple hours. Humans cannot maintain clicks within strict boundaries for long periods of time, no matter what you say.

For example, randomizing a click to vary between 1-5 seconds may seem random on face value, however, even these random clicks will average to 2.5 seconds quickly.

The simple answer, Jagex does not ban based on whether you visually look like a bot. They ban based on multiple criteria after analyzing player data. Of course, “looking” like a bot may/will lead to influx of player reports, which is baaaad.

It's also worth noting, a lot of skills players may look like bots, especially while training AFK skills. When I see a fisher that has been standing still 60 seconds after the fishing spot moves, I don't accuse of botting, because let's be honest, most OSRS players multitask, alt-tab, or have a second screen.

    Cheers,

Their systems aren't perfect, but everything related to their bot detection system is pure speculation. They've left out a few things here and there, but a lot of it is trial and error and speculation on what they should do or how they could detect bots. I have heard of some cases of their bot detection system getting it wrong (or possibly, the manual bot detection team got it wrong when they reviewed one of the reported accounts). Some bans are automated, some bans get thrown into a pool of manually checked but flagged accounts. There is definitely room for error when humans are checking things by hand and making quick decisions.
