In my opinion this is basically like modifying ranks to reflect vouches. This would be ridiculously easy to abuse, with many fake thanks going out, and many new accounts being made purely for the purpose of farming thank points for your main account. What is the point anyways?

Your basic idea is to re-organize the rank system for absolutely no reason. This wouldn't bring any benefits and it would require a huge amount of work. The taking away thanks is especially stupid - tons of higher members could cut down lower members easily, or even gang up on people. Dumb idea, plus re-organizing ranks/new ranks is against suggestion rules.

People would get their friends to "thank" them for no reason at all. They could make new accounts to thank themselves. It's a great idea yes. But if you could think of ideas to fix or stop the abuse, it could turn out to be a pretty good addition to the site. Also, your title says "easier way to gain trust". I count that as a bad thing. Trust should be something hard to earn, and some players might use this thank system to scam. Saying "i have x amount of thanks, therefore im trustworthy"

Why would being thanked have anything at all to do with trust?

I support this, not to replace trust or vouches, but just as a nice addon that everyone can enjoy.

    a) Why is that?
    b) What are you implying?

I also think its kind of ironic that Snowboard with the TWC wants to build a safer, scam free community.

P.S: I know that having a TWC doesn't automatically make you untrustworthy, I just find it sadly funny.

    one problem:
lets say someone has been around sythe for a long time, has 50 vouches, many from people doing stuff like going on sythe for a fire cape then never posting again. At least for a while, it would be very difficult for the different ranks to separate out, and at first, it wouldn't be too reliable . Also, I don't see how you could represent vouches already obtained as a fix, it would require ages of moderators checking the validity, otherwise it will inhereit the problems of the vouch system. Also, it loses the fact that vouches really show to what extent is happening, helping someone bot on their new account is a world away from doing while guthix sleeps for someone on their account with 20m and no pin. This difference just could not be represented in this system without abuse or constant moderation, which i don't believe sythe has the staff to do.

On the whole, great idea, my main problem is the implementation.

Because thats so different from the current system, right?

If this was more of a respect thing and not a trust thing then it would be a good idea, but sadly everything on here is about building "trust".

Would be great if it actually worked, but unfortunately, it won't. It will be too easily abused.

Hasn't this been suggested and denied before?

Good idea, but not for trust, more just to say thanks, nothing special.

It all comes down to the low IQ quota of this forum, and people mistaking 'thanks' for some sort of 'trusted member' status.

System is a copy of reputation. No 'thanks'.

Bad idea. Whats the difference between this and a REP system?

People would have huge discussion over MSN to make fake thanks and it will get badly raped!

It's just an opening to scammers. It would be the new post count.
