    A world without cars?

Think of it - It would save hundreds of thousands of dollars. We wouldn't have to keep re-paving the roads, which are a bitchload of money.

We wouldn't be spending money on gas everyday.

    It would help the environment.

Seriously, why be a lazy fuck and drive a car? There are bicycles for a reason. And there are also trains if your work/school is too far.

It would put a lot of people out of work, But if they legalized weed, those jobs lost could now be saved with them growing marijuana.

I know this would never happen, But who agrees a life without cars would be a lot better? (For the environment, and our wallets).

well if we never discovered cars it would be easier on people since they do not know what it would be to have one but something else would have probably been invented to take it's place.

If cars were just wiped out it would be hard on people because so many people are used to having cars around for transportation or whatever.

but yes a life without cars would be nice i always like going for a walk on a nice day or going biking if my destination is distant

and for the environment it would be much better than it's crappy situation now.

= Some pretty damn stupid scientists.

But really, instead of cars, what would be built? If Earth had a MASS abundance of water, hover cars could possibly be built, but you'd only see them here or there and always near a water source, as seen on Mythbusters.

    Haha.

Well, yeah, there could always be cars that run on alternative fuel, like water. They've actually made a couple, but obviously they aren't being released to the public.

I think a life without cars would be much simpler though, and I enjoy simplicity.

Edit: Re-read your post. Why does something need to be built instead of cars? Can't you just walk/skate/bike to get to where you need to be?

The amount of trees counter the pollution, and the money saved? It's an investment into transportation.

Cars are important... but I would suggest to use a bike if you can.

Do you understand how underdeveloped everything would be if we didn't have cars? Cars are essential.

"hundreds of thousands of dollars".....man it would be in the billions, possibly trillions if you're talking worldwide. There would need to be upgrades to the rail systems to provide for the new masses of people who now need to use the rail systems, structural chancges to add new tunnels to add the new stops, which would probably cost a pretty penny since it is worldwide, and most people aren't exactly fit to ride bikes to work at current, due to obesity and such problems (fast food). It would be quite decent i think if cars were somehow replaced by the rail system or other method.

The problem is, that without cars (that includes trucks and busses etc.) transportation would be as fast as it was in the 1800's. You'd have to use the train to get from A to B or by boat. The economy would be a fraction of what it is now, because cars made economic growth possible. Maybe cars burn fossil fuels, but this is also a source of income for others. The oil industry created billions each year and millions of jobs.

We would have a much more simple world, and would save a bunch of time to do important stuff.

A world without cars would be terrible.

I would not be able to get to my school every day, my parents would not be able to get to work, I would not be able to go out to as many places to eat, etc...

Think how much food and supplies are transported by truck.

Why do cars have to be replaced? Can't everyone do it old school and walk/ride a bike? Much simpler times.

You can't ride your bike to school? Your parents can't take a train/bus?

Like I said, it would never happen. But it would be awesome if it did.

    A world without cars?

Isn't this what the whole topic is about? Finding an alternative for cars and imagining a world without? And really it's not replacing, if you get rid of cars then that's that, they are gone, the rail system is simply still there and the next best alternative to be able to provide for the masses, as i mentioned before. Your ignorance amazes me, i clearly stated why MOST people can't simply 'do it old school' and go back to much simpler times, it's HEALTH. There is mass obesity worldwide and most people don't live close together or near their work so you can't simply just force them to walk or ride a bike, hence my proposed idea for railway changes. Please actually read and take time to let what i have said sink in before you challenge it. Sure what you say is a good alternative, but to implement it would need drastic measures to achieve it

Wow you people are really idiots. Cars are used all over the world for almost everything. They are not only used by fatties in the USA, because they are too lazy to ride a bike.

Imagine a world without cars. You break your leg, normally you would call an ambulance, but wait... THERE IS NONE! Now you can wait for a cart with a horse to pick you up, while your leg infects more and more, because it takes so long. This is just a simple example.

People who say to take the bus: there will be no bus, because a bus is a car.

    @OP

Does this mean that you will not drive a car when you're older? Or else you would be a damn hypocrite.

Ahh, definitely a good argument there.

No, I will not be driving a car. A street bike, on occasion, but they get better MPG and I'll most likely use it once or twice a week.

    A world without cars?

Ok you call us idiots then base your example of life without cars on just that...only around cars, and further, not on any of the ideas already proposed. If you broke your leg and the railroad is nearby, it is able to go to and from city to city on high speed rail cars, how is that not more convenient. Are there not other forms of medical rescue/transportation? Things like helicopters....? Since there would be no cars, fuel/s would be in more adundance in the economy and cheaper to provide fuel.

I agree it was a simple example, too simply thought out that is

And i already said a possible idea of modifications that could happen in order to provide for the new bus-less people.

No it doesn't mean anyone here will not drive a car in the future, this is simple disussion of opinions on whether or not cars are good or bad. I'm sure people on both sides of this arguement will still drive cars in the future, it's convenient and reliable transportation.

Lets see. To get to the train station I would need to bike around 15 miles... Then train ride. Then like 10 more miles to school. Not going to happen.

    A world without cars?

HOW CAN NO ONE GRASP THIS CONCEPT?!?!

I said UPGRADE the rail system, engineer more efficient train models, "to be able to provide for the NEW masses of car-less and bus-less people, which is where the word upgrade comes in.

Upgrade=To make improvements on what was old or outdated

As of now the rail system seems current and a pretty decent method of travel, but that's only because we are able to rely on cars, and cars do all the 'errand' travelling whereas trains right now are really 'luxury' travel, that is travel which is long distance or for vacational purposes. This is what i was saying, if cars were 'somehow' able to be filtered out of our economy, then the train would be out of place and would need to be converted to be able to provide for both luxury and errand travelling since it is the next best method to be able to provide for everyone.
