How do you feel about people who use narcotics?

Question is simple. What is your opinion on people that use illegal drugs? Even including prescription drugs that give a sense of well being.

I don't believe in the use of any type of drugs and I think that most prescription drugs only cause more problems rather than solving them. But I believe that all drugs should be legal and purchasable at CVS, and I am glad to see society moving more towards cannabis instead of using alcohol.

My opinion of people comes more from the content of their character rather than if they use drugs or not, illegal or illegal. We live in a society where officials who need caffeine just to wake up condemn other people to unjust prison sentences for using similar compounds just because a written law deemed them as illegal.

I want people to have the freedom to consume and purchase what they want even if I don't believe in what they're doing, because I know all the drug war has done is cause pointless violence and increase gang and cartel activity.

My opinion of people using drugs is no different than my opinion of people not using drugs. I've witnessed many more alcoholics do degrading things to others than a so called drug addict...How the person act's on drugs and not on drugs affects my way of thinking on that person. On the otherhand, the people who are making insane profit off drug addicts both illegally and legally will always give me a bad outlook on those people.

Oddly enough, I'm going to have to agree with whoever wrote the Gospel of Matthew:

'What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”

Extremely interesting. When you say you don't believe in the use of any type of drugs, do you mean that you wouldn't take aspirin if you had a headache, you wouldn't consent to general anesthesia if you needed major surgery, and you wouldn't want to take a benzo if you were having a panic attack?

Yeah that's fair enough, I'd say we're on the same page.

Good lord, nope, we are not on the same page at all. I understand that caffeine is a drug, but trying to compare caffeine to speed, coke, etc., whether in formulation or effect, is absolutely stupid. Get a better PR person.

I'm with you, the U.S. drug war has caused more harm that good, but the way you put it...do you think heroin should be freely available on store shelves?

I don't know what you've seen, but alcoholics are just as addicted as a stereotypical "drug addict".

For surgery, I would use anesthesia. I wouldn't use aspirin or benzos because I believe they wouldn't solve any problems long term and just create more issues.

Caffeine is pretty similar in effects to cocaine when measured by the same amount. Legalization shouldn't be based on how dangerous we think drugs are as there could be many factors contributing to how they effect people, it should just be a choice people can make with their own body.

There are some studies that claim that certain sports are more dangerous than drugs, that doesn't mean that sports should be banned:
Are Football and Hockey More Dangerous than Drugs?

I do think heroin should be available on store shelves, like with any other drug the drug war has just caused versions of it to enter the market that are less safe and created unnecessary death and violence.

Why? You apparently have some knowledge of medicine - can you elaborate on your training? Are you a nurse, or a doctor? Are you a medical assistant? On what basis are you deciding these things? I'm extremely curious as to your credentials!

Cocaine and caffeine are similar in the same sense that stubbing your toe and getting a third degree burn are "painful". Technically correct, but utterly worthless if you're trying to explain to a layperson.

    Why?

It doesn't mean that those sports should be banned? Why not? Why do you say that?

Also, I don't know if you actually read the article, but it doesn't actually end with a conclusion. It also misuses the term "factoid". If you're going to google something to help your case, you should probably read the article you post.

Do you...think that contaminated heroin is the only reason that people overdose?

How do you feel about people who use narcotics?

I have not read previous replies, wanted to give my sight.

I grew up around narcotic abuse.

I was using narcotics from age 12.
My own mother sat me down, and said “you can smoke, but you have to be able to roll your own.” And provided me a pill jar full of weed + rolling papers.

Sure weed isn’t harmful, but at such a young age it can be (and was for me).
“weed isn’t a gateway” yada yada.
Maybe for people who were exposed to it at a more mature age in life. You hang around with people who are similar, and maybe it was the crowds i was around. But i was doing hardcore drugs shortly after being exposed to weed. Luckily i didn’t have much of an “ addictive personality” was able to kick most drugs. I stopped smoking weed when i was 19, to begin my irl career.

Through the years i’ve lost some friends to overdoses and have even seen my mother go through an overdose. (she recovered and has since gotten clean.)

As cruel as some may read this, I’ve started to lose sorrow towards people who battle addiction. I understand some people are so lost in it, and luckily i was able to defeat my addictions myself.

With this being said, i don’t associate with people who do ‘narcotics’. I’d like to add, i’m not against weed. And one day look forward to being able to smoke again.

Well in the case of most aspirin and benzodiazepines, they do not fix the actual problem at the root but just try to address the symptoms, and then having their own side effects. People being nurses or doctors does not mean they will be effective at treating disease to, in medical schools doctors are often taught to administer pharmaceuticals without addressing the root cause of the sickness through proper nutrition or lifestyle.

For example I used to have flare ups of eczema and most doctors I visited would only prescribe topical steroids. These would just make the problem worse long term by damaging my body's skin and immune response and making the flare ups come back even worse. I've seen some new treatments like monoclonal antibodies that address the system on a more cellular level and I'd be interested in trying that.

Medicines are too often prescribed to people for all kinds of reasons and they end up with dependency, becoming reliant on them just to function or be happy. Its endemic in the school system where childrens from a a very young age are given Adderall and Ritalin because they're believed to have behaviorial issues, although it's the prison-like public school system that is the problem.

If I needed to calm down for example it would make the most sense for me to think of what is causing me stress and what I need to do to resolve it. In that case lifestyle changes are more often needed than taking a drug. Taking medicine wouldn't make the cause of that stress go away, it would still be there when the medicine wears off and then there's dependency to deal with.

Instead of spending enormous amount of money fighting/enforcing drugs as illegal it should be decriminalized and instead spend money on mental health and treatment which I think would be a lot cheaper than the current system. I'm sure a lot of them would seek out the help if there wasn't a fear or stigma of being an addict and not to mention even those that may want to go straight can't because of a ridiculous charge of possession for having maybe a minor amount of substance for personal use. With a record one can't almost ever get a good enough job to escape into a better life.

It's people's choice what they want to do with their bodies.

But hey I don't see with our current politicians and even those that want the change have too many who are too "conservative" not to mean the PC party, against anything like drugs and think a thought approach is the only way to go.

Well has it worked... the many many many decades says otherwise.

Right, many less would actually do drugs if they were all legal because part of the allure would be gone and people would be able to seek treatment instead of being imprisoned.

I think that people who use them because they need them medically are fine. Recreational drug usage for me is 50/50, it depends on what class, for example Marijuana is accept in huge chunks of the world so I'm fine with this, but it is down to whoever uses at the end of the day and I have tried a few others.

To a point man. Some people work in safety sensitive positions where the rights of the worker are outweighed by the rights of the public. So if you're smoking an ounce a day operating some heavy machinery i can't see how that is justified. Just my 2 cents though.

What are your opinions on people that have addictions?

What are your opinions on people who have mental disorders?

What are your opinions of people who have undealt trauma which actively ruins their life?

What are your opinions of people who have PTSD?

What are your opinions of people who have caused the death of another?

Truth is, my opinion doesn't matter. Everyone has their reasons some are good and some are bad, that's that.
