    The Existence of God

In the end, no matter which Religion, Polytheist or not, it leads to one God. There are religions such as ancient Egyptian and Greek which worship many gods, but the Egyptians "central" god was Ra, and Greek/Roman was Zeus. So I believe in God, but that I'm worshipping the "one"/original/central God. I do not call my God a name, nor do I specify his accomplishments/promises; thus giving me no attachments to a specific God mentioned by past/modern religions. But there will never be a right/wrong answer, nor a satisfyable answer, since God/Gods is a belief which can vary person to person.

    The Existence of God

Look, I've tried numerous times here to prove God with the most logical evidence I can think of, but apparently there's always a way to prove me wrong... But I believe in God because I know he is real. Yep, I have no proof, and for that I am sorry. But you know that feeling you have when you really and truly believe in or trust in something? Doesn't that have any credibility?

I've presented all the theistic arguments in the world, and you still find ways to disprove them somehow. I'm sorry, but I'm out of proof. I just truly have my heart set on God.

No, it doesn't. I could really, truly believe with all of my conscious being that the world will end tomorrow, but the chances are zero to infinite of that happening. I could really, truly believe that my parents are my parents, but what if a DNA test showed that I was adopted? There are countless scenarios which you can put that "niggling feeling" in to, and usually, if not always, there is a chance of that feeling being wrong.

    The Existence of God

So in a nutshell, sentiment is your reason for believing? You don't even have a rational reason, you just want to believe God or a god exists because your father may have been ill?

x is comforting does not imply x is true. Plenty of people who don't believe in God have survived life-threatening illness and ailment, so I don't see how your father is any different. Likewise, plenty of people who DO believe in God have died due to life-threatening illness. There is nothing to suggest a god had anything to do with keeping your father alive.

    The Existence of God

    Personally, no.
I waver in and out of a state of wicca and atheism.
In my opinion, a god is something that man can look to for hope, and for something(one?) to ask for help, when there is no one left to turn to.
Whether he listens or not, is based on how he feels etc.
If there was a god, would he not just listen to what is considered good?
But then you have to consider a war, and which side is good/bad?
I also have a small conspiracy theory that religion was created by some government long ago to keep their citizens in line.

If you think about Mesopotamia, they had ziggurats at the centre of each city state in which the gods lived. The gods looked down on you, and if you acted badly, you would go to the equivelant of hell.

In basically every religion, it is against the beliefs to kill another human being.
    Is that not a law?
Sure we are a civilized race, but to what extent?
We have war, racism, gangs, etc.

ATM i'm wavering towards atheism. I'll post later when I have a wiccan POV.

    The Existence of God

In response to the: "If God helped your dad, why did he ignore the other sick people in the world?" The fact is, for the most part it is unclear as to whether or not God intervenes with human health or not. However, I and many others believe that in most cases, certain things are too coincidental to simply overlook. I posted a study in one of my earlier responses that was done a few years ago that outlines the correlation between prayer and medical recoveries. Einstein said that "Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous" and that really hits the nail on the head. The best you can possibly do to argue with belief in God based on a medical miracle is give a reason to doubt that God was behind the miracle, however, the existence of evil/suffering is not effective in "disproving" God.

After all, most believers have already come to terms with the fact that in order for love to exist (Love both towards and from God), evil must exist. Otherwise, logically, freewill was never given to mankind and we would all be mindless God loving drones.

In response to the "Government created religion:" I encourage you to take an objective and secular class in which you study the Old Testament. The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls many years ago eroded this argument unfortunately. This is because, after discovery of those scrolls, it became clear that the documents of the Old Testament were as old as many has expected, thousands of years old. Historical and archeological study of the middle east gives legitimate reason to believe that these scrolls were written by nomadic peoples, meaning these people were constantly moving and more than likely not controlled by a government entity. This means that now only a few possibilities remain. Either the Bible was written out of pure imagination, it was based on cultural myths, or in fact, inspired by God.

    The Existence of God

If you are referring to the bible, I can say Jezus DID exist.
Maybe not in the form as we know him by the stories, but as a normal living human.
The bible is just got "over" the truth by time and mouth to mouth story telling in the early ages.

No, I don't think that god(s) exist. It's ridicilous that people believe such bullshit, there aren't any real proof.

    The Existence of God

To have evidence to support God would be the same as lowering God to the level of our world and we would be mistaken in regard to what God is. Scientific evidence in the sense of the word are valid for only things perceptible to the senses, it is only on things that scientific methods of investigation can be used.
-This is based on some of John Paul II's teachings on the existence of God. I'll look for a direct quote.

You cannot take a literal view of the bible. The bible is not just a book, but a collection of books, a small library. If you were in a sci-fi section of the library, would you take everything literally? No, but you could take lessons out of it nonetheless.
