There is nothing you can do to help them. The people in Africa need to overthrow the government by themselves. One day someone born in Africa will unite everyone and change things. Other countries donating food only makes the problem worse, because the food is given to the governments to distribute, but they only give it to people who would vote for them which would keep the corrupt in power.

Anyways, I find that most of Africa's problems could be solved by destroying their government and setting up a new one, much like we did/are doing with Iraq.

The starvation is a big problem, but one we cannot solve by ourselves, nor can they solve by themselves.

But working together to solve it has not, and most likely wont happen.

 

Well, apparently, people orginiated from Africa. So, it's not where they live thats the problem. Kenya and other African contries have very fertile land, next to rivers, valleys, etc.

The problems started when all these Europian countries tried to "civilize" them, the African people were generally alright up untill then... Now, the governments that the Euporians set up have gone currupt and bankrupt.

I believe it's the western countries fault. We SHOULD be doing more to help.

They shouldn't get any monrey from other countries because then they'll never learn to stand on their own feet. They need to do a change by themselfs.

Yeah, those stupid 2 year olds need to learn. And they need to do it quick, because they have a good chance of dying before they're 3 years old. So give it a year, if they don't learn then they get what they deserve.

...Not really...before European conquest Africa was just primitive tribes with primitive clothing, primitive homes, and primitive religion. And no, we really SHOULDN'T be doing more to help. And for those people who are like "it's like somebody's getting raped and you're just standing there", no, it's more like somebody's getting raped 50,000 miles away and you're not sure with what or how to help them. Starvation, poverty, and suffering will NEVER go away. It never has and never will. Africa just seems to be a breeding ground, so to speak, for those kinds of things. They can fix themselves, the problem is that many people are uneducated and the leaders are negligent. They'll turn themselves around, many countries have been able to do that...it's in their hands not ours...

 

So since child rape in America will never go away, we should stop trying? Is it only in the hands of the young rape victims and the rapists?

Did I say rape? No, I said poverty and starvation. Sure, maybe we can control these things in the US, but it's a big world. We don't control all of it. Bad things will happen no matter what we do.

Why shouldn't your logic be applied to things like rape? By applying it to rape I'm exposing a potential inconsistency in your ideology. You are saying that an inability to stop all is a reason not to stop any. I see no fundamental reason why this logic applies to one thing and not another.

Why is it relevant that rape victims are maybe a few miles away while children starving are thousands of miles away? We are capable of helping both. We live in a world where transportation of food around the globe happens everyday. I see no reason why distance is a factor.

 

It was a metaphor...this thread is not about rape so we are going to stop talking about that. Why should we help them? We can stop bad things from happening in our own country because we live in a democracy and we have a sensible set of laws in the US, and a reasonably stable economy. Whereas in Africa, we don't control their government or their actions, and if we wanted to really control them, it would result in a very gruesome war. We don't NEED that. We have much less control over what's happening than people think. Sudan's government has actively rejected aid for Darfur, what are we supposed to do about that? Attack them? As I said before, it's very much out of our hands and very much in theirs.
