How To Dress Emo(My Style)

I Would Like To Point Out That Emo Is A Style, Or If You Go Deeper, A Music Genre. I Will Report ALL Posts That Include Any Profanity Towards Those Who Dress Emo. If You Make Fun Of People Because The Stereotype Of People Who Dress A Certain Way Is That They Cut Themselves, There Is Something Wrong With You.

The Hair
Having the right hair is pretty crucial to this look. The best thing to do is grow out your hair in general. The way my hair is, I have it fairly short in the back, and my bangs come down to about the bottom of my nose, if I have them hanging over my face. Generally they're parted off to one side. Thats how you want it, parted to one side. Not poser hanging over both your eyes. It should maybe cover the eye that is on the same side as where your bangs are. Normally my bangs are just off to the side, not covering my eyes in any way. You'll also want to have a fairly competent hairdresser. If he/she can't cut your hair right (use google image pictures for reference) then you should switch. After my hair is the way I like it, I straighten the front and my side bangs with a flat iron. I assure you this is in no way girly, it merely gives you the hair you want. After my hair has been straightened, I sometimes spike the back with a styling creme. I put the styling creme on my finger tips of both hands, and rub it together, from index finger to my pinky. Then I run both hands through the back of my hair alternating until it is spiked in just the right way. Sometimes I'll only just do the top of my head, spiking the top (your crown) and making the top (infront of the crown now) look messy. You can see that the hair is fairly important, but it takes me no longer than 10minutes every morning to do it. One last important piece to the hair is the colour. It can be any colour you want, as long as blonde isn't the main one. I think that just kills it. Maybe some streaks, but make the main colour something dark, or maybe have the main colour cyan. That'd look so sweet you don't even know.

The Shirts/Hoodies
I tend to wear t-shirts through most of the winter, with some kick ass, crazy coloured sweater over top. I'm not in to the whole dark hoody deal, if it has purple or a bright blue, I'm in. Basically wear anything that feels comfortable. I try to look for shirts and hoodies that look way out there, so far off the beaten track that you're sinking in quicksand. Colourful quicksand though . The shirts and hoodies don't require as much attention, just anythign that peaks your interest. Stripes are always good.

The Belts/Jeans
Now, I really have no preference when it comes to jeans, skinny or straight. But in my experience, skinny or straight is the way to go. Don't go through the girls section at Old Navy though. Just go to Hot Topic or someplace with male skinnies, or just straights. Belts, to my preference, are pyramid belts (google it) or just flat belts with a crazy array of colours. Make sure the points on your pyramid belts aren't too sharp though. If you sit in a fairly relaxed position, with some weight on the belt and your shirt over the belt, you'll get holes. This pisses the shit out of me, and is best to try to avoid. Also with pyramid belts, make sure the points are stuck in well, it looks good sometimes, but when you only have 3 or 4 of the points left on your belt, it looks pretty sad because they've been falling out.

The Shoes
Right now I'm wearing Vans, Off The Wall shoes. They're green and white with some green diamond shapes. They look pretty sweet, but I wish I'd gotten the ones that were checkered black and red. Your shoes can be any brand you like except Nike or anything sporty. If you wear Adidas or Nike runners, it totally kills the look, and most likely you will be called a poser or a chav . (Google it) If it looks crazy, and you like it, buy it. Converse are good, but I like to wear skateboard shoes like Etnies or Vans, etc. Just not DC. I personally hate DC.​

I don't think if you're not "emo" people would not really want to "dress emo".
For Emos i don't really think many would need a guide for dress sense, and most of the clothing you've stated is "Scene" and not "Emo".

Anywho, i have my hair dyed black, getting my fringe done blue soon, and generally just wear black skinnies, with either a white or black top, seeing as i like the contrasting colours, and the contrast makes me stand out more.

Decent guide for those who are thinking of getting into the "scene" sense, but dressing emo doesn't make you emo, it makes you a wanna-be, or "scene"

And yeah as you said, anyone who slags of Emos, generally know nothing about the stereotpye.

You still have stereotypes. I guess it is more scene, but I started out emo and i suppose i worked my way to scene. And the way I used to be a blonde nerdy lookin fag before I started dressign scene/emo. I liek this self image better, and I have a better self-esteem now.

There is really no stereotype "Scene" Or "Emo" it's just the style of clothing. It's like prep, etc. And the reason people dislike emo/scene is because they heard about it on the internet from a nutfuck who dislieks the style, so disses the people who wear it. You're still a fucking person, just dress a certain way.

 

For a style thread, you really should have pictures.

It's also a bit of a sell-out. Emo isn't about the "look"; it's supposed to more of an attitude (hence the name). You can't tell people how to be emo anymore than you can tell them to be prep by putting on a Ralph Lauren shirt. I understand what you're getting at, but if you're Emo, you define the look, not the other way around. You're doing exactly what you're telling others not to, by clinging to the stereotype.

(Also, I'd hate to be infracted, so I'll freely express my opinion in my avvie. Goths > Emos.)

Ahaha. Don't leech, you made me laugh. Technically I'm considered "Emo" by the kids at my school, my friends, youtube, etc. Yet I don't have the whole "hair" thing going on... My hair is curly. Like... Epic curly. It goes down to my chin, so it's pretty long. Covers my eyes and such. I still have the whole tight pants, band shirt, etc. I probably have like 8 studded belts, some of which are silver, neon green, red, black, white... Yeah. Also I think that bracelets/jewelry are a must. Nothing gaudy, just like a small choker silver beaded necklace, and of course, guitar picks. And a few bracelets. As for the shoes, Vans. Period.

Good guide but you should include pictures and break your ideas into smaller paragraphs as it's really long to read and makes the reader want to stop and go away.

Emo/scene style and a more prep style are the only nice styles in life. If you don't dress like this I can see you being of maybe a different race but if you are white and don't dress like one of these you are lost in society. I wear clothes mostly from pacsun and girl skinny jeans; there is nothing gay about it. 8/10 on the guide only because there are no pictures.
