Are Asians really more intelligent?

im asian and i can say that it is most definitely how your parents talk to you.

i know most people think the stereotypical asian is short and smart, but it really is how your parents speak to you. im 6'2 and really want to pursue a career in basketball. turning 15 right now all I wanted to do was play basketball day and night. but then my parents talked to me about how it really is hard to get into the NBA, NCAA etc. and that if you don't get there, you have a degree to get back onto.

My parents never push me, they just gave me the choices and its up to you to choose.

So i guess the conclusion is asian people realize at an earlier age? thus working harder during their childhoods


PS: I also forgot to add, the reason why asian parents encourage their child alot is usually because they have an only child. and its their only chance for them to becoming successful

 

I've been told that spoken Chinese dialects are much, much simpler than any Indo-European language in terms of grammar. Do you natively speak Chinese or did you learn it?

 

I was raised in China for my childhood years .

Eventually we moved back to America and there I learned english.

Though I'm 100% American, to me, chinese is beyond harder then English, my second language .

The calligraphy requires perfectness in order to form a word while English, hand-writing is not so important.

I think that also contributes!

 

This is true - grammatically, Mandarin is quite simple. Although formal writing has some unspoken rules, Mandarin itself lacks a really defined structure. I hope that you aren't trying to correlate less-complexity to explain greater memory - it's a dubious explanation.

My English is much better than Mandarin, although Mandarin was the first language I learned. At the moment, it's about as good as my Spanish... which isn't too hot.

 

As a Chinese American I would have to say, us Asians are, by no means more intelligent than Caucasians. It really comes down to the fact that Asians are more diligent than Caucasians, and give their utmost effort to prepare themselves for a successful future. What SMR was saying about the environment affecting our IQs, it seems far fetched.

Think about it this way:

Asians had to adapt to the cold weather while everyone else had to live normally. They had an disadvantage and from that, they had to work harder and think critically to survive. They worked hard while everyone else went on with their easy lifestyles.

Ones intelligence is not determined by his or her race, They don't realize at an earlier age more than Caucasians or africans, etc.

It's just that they all sit on a computer 24/7 in a 5 by 6 apartment learning how to code C++. [ Sarcasm ]

its just a bad streotype that is protrayed everyday in our media only furthering its advancement.

 

It's mainly due to population differences for example in China vs. America. In China someone has to work much harder to be noticed equally as an American (due to the vast number differences). It seems to be a stereotype to me. I've met me share of smart and dumb people (of all races).

 

I think that in the Asian culture, their main pride is having a high intelligence. That's because in their culture, they knew being more intelligent meant getting a better job, more money, etc. Basically, a "better life". It also comes from discipline, where maybe fooling around is seen as absurd.

 

They are well discipliner and learn harder... than the average american that watch HannahMontana...
