    Growing Tobacco?

    Hey guys,

I just brought some Virginia tobacco seeds and they are due here on tuesday. I will put some pics up once I get them and start growing them. Is there anyone here that has experience with growing tobacco?, I've done alot of research through the internet and found out several different ways to get them germinating. I brought around 2000 Virginia seeds which are they high growing ones, and 1000 of these random ones (Didn't have a name on them), which are the smaller growing plants. I am going to try a few in Jiffy 7 Pellets, a few in small soil pots and then keep them indoors for the first few weeks to get them germinating. Once they get about 1-2 months old I will take them out and plant them out the back in a garden piece i've got setup. It's just reached the right season here in New Zealand, and I am going to grow about 300-500 plants this year. I have a massive garden that was here from the old owners, and I have dug that all up and put new top-soil on top of it. There's enough space for about 500 plants in there. I will post some pics of my progress. Hope you guys find it interesting :)

Oh and by the way I'm only 15, I ain't growing it to smoke it. I'm just curious as to if I can grow it or not. Once the plants are fully grown (3-4 months) you will get about 1kg of each plant but you have to dry it out and compress it which makes about 100 grams per plant, so when you think about it. A normal packet of rollies are 30 grams, thats 3 packets to each plant times that by 300-500 and woahhh.. I don't know what im going to do with it if I get it growing correctly, probably sell it to some mates and stuff (I know its highly illegal to sell it, but there only mates). Also it is perfectly legal to grow your own tobacco if people were wondering, the plants end up with flowers on them and look like any old plant :).

Here is what they look like when there about ready to go outside -

Here is what they look like fully grown -

Will post my own pics up when they come, if anyone wishes to know how to grow some, just say here and I will PM you some links about basic growing.

    Thanks ;)

I seriously advice you not to let anyone smoke your own tobacco... It's poisonous.

Growing your own tobacco wouldn't be worth it since you'd smoke it faster than it would grow. And, no doubt, you'd want to sell it. But the number one reason why I would never smoke it is because home grown tobacco is shit. It doesn't have all those good chemicals they put in it like pre-made cigarettes.

You could make a lot of money if you say 100g per plant.

    Here in the UK the prices are as followed;

50g Golden Virginia - £11.98 in our shop
[I know people that sell them for £5 from airports etc.)

    25g Golden Virginia - £6.28

    12.5 Golden Virginia £3.09

    Growing Tobacco?

    why is tobacco poisonous?
The poison in cigarrettes isn't tobbacco, it's the chemicals that the companies add into it.

    Growing Tobacco?

.......Self grown tobacco is pretty lethal. But go ahead and smoke it and give us a smoke report to read so all the other guys will believe me too.

Oh, if you're even alive after that..

    Growing Tobacco?

Wow. It's no more lethal than pipe tobacco or cigarettes... What do you think the native Americans toked on? Actually, everyone who lived over 150 years ago smoked "home grown" tobacco... Sources or gtfo.

That seems irrelevant. Where you get seeds from doesn't make a plant more or less toxic. That sentence dropped my impression of you from ignorant to stupid.

    Growing Tobacco?

Lol I've never seen tobacco in pure form. How tall do they grow and how many grams does one plant give?

To the people who say it's lethal, wouldn't it be less lethal than cigarettes since it's more pure or is tobacco naturally bad for you? I hate cigarettes though, it's all about the Mary Jane; nothing else but her.

    Growing Tobacco?

The ones I have grow tallest 6-7ft and the leaves get about 1.5-2ft long.

And to the people that are saying it's poisonous, it's not. You give me sufficient proof that it is and I may believe you. I have done my research on the internet and it is perfectly fine to smoke. It is more healthy than the tobacco sold in shops as it doesn't have all the poisons going into the tobacco. If anyone wants me to link them to the Tobacco growing forums I will gladly link you to it and you ask some of the pro's there. It's completely fine. If your'e talking about the pesticides and stuff that can get to the plants, I have a powder that I have got from my local garden shop that has been approved to be put on tobacco plants that will keep pests away but not harm the product.

&& Anyway, as I said I won't be the one smoking it.
