Just my suggestion

If we suspect a user has 2 accounts, then we should be able to check them out before making a report. I think that we should be able to put two usernames in a form and it will tell us if the IP addresses match, although because of privacy issues we wont be able to see them. Then we can make a more accurate report against the user before wasting a moderator/administrators time.

Comments? Improvements?

 

Err, I don't think the admins would want people to freely find IPs. Not only could this violate privacy, people could use them for bad things, etc.

I highly doubt IP's will ever be openly given out for ALL users.

If you suspect someone has 2 accounts, feel free to contact a mod and supply them with your evidence, and I'm sure they will look in to it.

Say I suspected you (benwise90) and shredderbeam to be multiple accounts. Then I would usually have to contact a moderator. What if there was a form that we could use that would compare the IP addresses, but all it would return is if the IP addresses are identical or not. We dont actually get to see the IP addresses, we just put the two usernames in to find if they are indentical and then we can go to further reporting.

 

Personally, I like this idea. It wouldn't show people's ip. It would just show if the ip's were identical or not.

Just to make this short, if everyone could do this Sythe would probably be down 24/7. Sythes server couldn't handle 130,000 people doing IP searches. It would just crash, and be down always.

So could properly using a middle man. All this would do is create a heavy workload for Sythe, as I said, the site couldn't handle all of that. So, unless you want an extremely laggy, offline site, than there is no way this would happen.

 

I don't think this would solve the ban evasion problem, people would just start using elite proxies. It is definitly an idea, quite simple; a bit helpful - but I think there are better ways to stop the "Sythe.org Scamming Problem", one of which you will find in a link in my signature called "Suggestions".

This can prevent scams, Sythe would need to find a good way to implement it, and people can only do "x" searches a day and only search if they are 250+ posters or something.

Lol it's not a complex script, sythe servers can handle it. It's only when we DDosed by giant botnets and crap do we go down. I've experience with this kinda stuff if you're wondering.

 

I agree with this idea, but people might track peoples ip's and sell there adresses to other people or they could find out where you live.

 

They cant beccause you cant see eachother IP...
