New Concurrent OSRS Record

I think that the game will surpass the all time peak of 250k players in the future that was seen in the 2007 era.

This is great news for services everywhere.

Old School Runescape Just Broke Its Concurrent Player Record

 

Interesting. and here I was thinking that OSRS' player count stagnated and will slowly drop.

 

It has been rising every year. I think it started with around 15 - 20K players and has been constantly going up. It's been above 100k often and I can see it going above 250k - 300K in the future especially with newer markets like India and China getting on board.

 

This is great news. I too have noticed more players as the years have gone by especially since the beginning of Covid19. One Osrs streamer alone at one point this week had around 40k viewers which was incredible to see.

 

The Covid and the new League for sure have brought old players back but imo there is a lack of young blood, I am eagerly waiting for the launch of osrs on steam, that should bring some noobs into the game

 

There seems to actually be a lot of new players in OSRS that have never played in the old era before. Twitch and YouTube I feel have helped to increase the playerbase a lot.

 

Actually makes sense. I forgot about COVID's effect on gaming lmao.

 

I just wonder how many of them are actually bots vs actual players.

 

YouTube probably has to do with it a lot.
Videos get more and more views and more people try the game, and we know how hard it is to actually stop playing Runescape, somehow all roads lead to Runescape.
For example, popular WoW streamer Asmongold created a video "First time playing OSRS", there has to be a couple thousands of people that have at least tried a game.
Not only that, all those Runescape youtubers have their videos out there permanently and YouTube eventually offers you one to watch and you get hooked.
I think it's good for people to play quality games like Runescape instead of some garbage out there.

 

Yes YouTube and Twitch have definitely helped a lot. And in 2020 RuneScape is still one of the most unique MMOs, with many of them being similar to WoW and having the incapability to simply switch to any server. I actually found that no other game has a gold market bigger than RuneScape's.

 

I would say the steam definitely has brought a lot of people to rs3 and osrs even though os has not been added to it yet
