Users should be smart enough to check where anyone's vouches are coming from.

Guide vouches do help traders decide whether or not to buy a guide, especially when it's unverified. What they're worth for other trades is probably less - but, there's no easy way to separate them without creating more rules and more infractions. So, it's really up to the user to look. We can't be expected to do all the work for you.

Either way, selling guides is pathetic.

    ^Ignore that, just my mindset.

    The easiest thing?
    Stop guide selling again.

    Second easiest?
Force it to be verified by a mod before sold.

That one guy got 6 pages of vouches for a guide that was complete crap.
    ^Fair?

    No.

We can't. We're a blackmarket, and there's too much demand for RWT guides; if people want to trade them, it makes sense that we'd provide a place to.

We entertained the idea - for about 5 minutes. But the mods do enough, and most don't play RS, and aren't able to verify guides.

No offense, I'm not trying to sound offensive to mods or mods decisions, but this just sounds like you took the easiest way out, knowing it would lead to a lot of fake vouches and scamming attempts...

ATM, people like Snowboard-Ninja are selling guides that they refuse to even have a MOD verify.
Not to mention people are selling RWT guides that they stole/leached, but since no one confirms them no one knows, the one guy got 6 pages of fake vouches from one guide, people are getting ripped off CONSTANTLY by these crappy guide sales.

Not to mention to take an example for Snowboards guide.

    Easily patched.
The DAY that he sells that guide, it will be patched.

We should at least have a guide selling section, so it doesn't cloud up true guide sections..

Guides are made to inform, NOT to profit off of anyways...

Go to the RS Guides section, the entire first page is RWT sales.

If someone buys a guide they should just keep in the back of their mind that possibly it could be a "fake" or just plain crap. Just like when purchasing an account, you have to remember that accounts are almost 100% of the time recoverable. It's just a risk that come with buying anything really.

You don't get something though, people get fake and useless vouches from selling guides, then they go scam people in the market section.

Check out the guide section, look at it for 3seconds.

Whole front page of people selling RWT guides, I can guarantee you almost all of them were leached.

Not to mention the guy that has 6 pages of vouches for a guide that doesn't exist.

We don't say "hmm, scammers are going to have a much easier time scamming if we do this, so let's do it". The staff vote, and present their opinions on why it works/doesn't work. In this case, how are the staff supposed to verify guides for a game that they don't play? The closest interaction staff have to runescape is middlemanning (which doesn't always require playing runescape).

That's their prerogative as the seller, to not want a mod to verify. Then the mod will know about the method for free. If they're fake, then report them and a mod will have him banned.

Again, if people don't want to give their "secrets" away for free, they don't have to. They've taken the time to find out about <insert guide subject here> and have taken the time to create the guide.

Take self help books as an example. "How to gain 20 pounds of muscle in 1 month". They've taken the time to write the book, they've learnt the secrets to muscle gain, so they're selling it. It's the exact same with runescape.

Is there something wrong with that? It just sounds like you want to get these guides for free...

Realistically, people can vouch for whatever they want, we have no means of stopping them, its up to you to decide whether or not the vouch makes them trusted or not.

Vouch for Warp320 for not being able to use discretion when deciding to trust the origin of someone's vouches.

I told you, mods can't verify guides for a game they don't play, let alone a game they don't keep tabs on.

Solution: Don't pay 1000 USD for a stupid game.
Also, I was referring to his vouches. If his vouches are fake, report him.

They can't sell other people's guides. They have to make their own guide on the topic. If you see someone selling another persons guide, then report it.

Well other people actually DO want to sell their guides, and help people RWT. That's why guides are created.

To add to MegaMatt's point, is it considered trusted to have a vouch for using a bot to train an account from 1 to 20 strength? Not in my eyes it isn't. That's why, as it has been said before in this thread, it is the BUYER'S responsibility to look at the vouches and deem them trusted or not.

As for guide sales, we did attempt to enforce moderator approval, but that in itself is a ludicrous idea. We do encourage guide sellers to get their guides verified, but it is unrealistic to enforce that they get it verified. That's the equivalent of having to get every single account sale here verified by a mod. Once again, it would take too long and the majority of moderators (including myself) don't even play runescape anymore.

It is at the discretion of the buyer on who they will trust and who they will buy their guides from. No one is forcing you to buy from, as your example put it, Snowboard. If you think it's a fake guide, you could always buy it and report it, but if you don't want to run the risk, just don't buy it. No one is holding a gun to you and telling you to buy it.

    I didn't see any flaming.

Now, 2 mods can't handle the entire amount of guide verification requests coming in. I constantly get pm's asking me to verify guides, and I simply can't because I haven't played runescape since 2007-08, and because of the amount of work we get from sythe, as well as our real life commitments.

As for people buying a guide to see if it's stolen:
There's usually a layout of what the guide contains (if the person has created the thread properly). A contents for example. Perhaps (not always) you can tell what a guide is from that.

How will the method be exploited if nobody knows about it. If you can milk that method, then good for you. Do it. Did you see how long it took for the d stone method to be patched? And that was public for months.

I agree, 2 mods is to low for that big a job.

And the description would help, except then Jagex know how to patch it.

Like snow-board ninja's guide, he said
"I used mulit interfaces and forced teleport to no-clip into stealing creations, no trade limit in there, so I can now xfer gold"

Sounds plausible, but then the second someone buys it, Jagex can patch it because they'll watch stealing creations 24/7 is my bet.

EDIT: They knew about the d-stone method, and yes it took that long, but then again, look how fast grape method went out.
And party room lasted forever because they were tackling huge ones first.
