He never said he did know. Of course we can not know for certain, but we can postulate and test our ideas. For instance, the idea that some source of extreme heat or energy struck a small pool of minerals required to form the first extremely basic cell has been tested in a system of beakers and tubes, which managed to produce very basic life form. I will try and find out what experiment it was.

And thank you Freedom for the clarification. I would still like to hear from Malachia on it though.

I am 100% sure that the Bible's version of how life started is false, Science has started to prove this.
I guess I believe in Evolution, even though it is still just a theory and I haven't looked into it in a great deal, it suits my beliefs best as an atheist.

We are discussing how life started, not came to be how it is today :p

Not just humans, but the first basic cell or human created by God, or even the magical teapot in space pouring it's delicious goodies into a human-shaped mold.

Keep in mind that not too long ago, everyone thought the world was flat.

In the future, try not to steal my thread ideas... I stick to my original belief that God created life.
By the way, Denode is right. Evolution doesn't explain the creation of life, but what happened to it after it was already here...
Toby, explain to me, one scientific fact that disproves anything in the Bible.

Radioactive dating. The earth isn't 6,000 years old. There. One thing.

One scientific fact that disproves something in the Bible is the fossils found of prehistoric creatures. Carbon dating and radioactive decay prove these fossils are older than when the world was supposedly created by God.

How did life on Earth start?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abiogenesis

Basically, an experiment (theory titled "primordial soup") was conducted which involved creating a solution of chemicals etc. which scientists educatedly guessed would have been in the earth's early oceans. They then passed an electric current through this solution, and over a period of time amino acids / proteins formed. These are the building blocks of life, and therefore it is highly likely that somewhere during the early years of the Earth some lightning or another unknown source of electric energy struck the oceans, forming amino acids and other such building blocks.

For more info, look up "Miller's Experiment".

Rob, why do you believe it was made by some higher being, and that that is such an obvious thing that you should say "duh"? I see more evidence behind our theories then yours, so why "DUH!"?

How did life on Earth start?

Sigh it, I'm not sure if you guys are looking for an exact answer, but I sure hope not. I've been going through these threads for months now, and it's getting silly. I've posted this on another forum before, but since I posted it, I'll pull some copy-and-paste action :- D.

"Almost everyone is, in no way, attempting to see the other person's perspective. You are out to defend your view and disprove your opponents. This is a never-ending circle. In one way or another, you have a come-back or rebuttal for everything the other person says. This, again, is due to the fact that you don't care about their view, only yours.

If you have your view in your mind, and you have conformed you entire life around it, you cannot be changed by a mere message board on some website. You see everything that opposes your view as wrong. This is fine, except when you try to tell someone else. This results in the same thing over and over again until you have a 500 page thread with no progress whatsoever.

Let me throw a simple example out there. * You are an atheist and always have been. You know that you are correct and have no doubts in your belief. You engage a Christian in a conversation. One thing leads to another and you are discussing your faith. The Christian is also steadfast in his beliefs and has every intention of proving you wrong. Each thing you both say is immediately written-off as ignorance and you begin to "set him right." This is the same for both of you, so no progress is made. You argue for hours and end up falling apart and killing each other. *

This is just my personal take on these threads, and by no means does it apply to everyone. Many or all of you may be trying to see the other person's perspective, but I can't say I believe you all do. All it takes is one person to not see the other's perspective and this infinite cycle begins. (don't get crazy at me, I'm just saying what I'm thinking)"

^ There's you answer. And, if you want to argue, you are kinda proving me right :- S
