Is eating a social activity?

It doesn't looks as weird when you're eating alone and doing something, though, like reading a newspaper or texting: otherwise it's like, yeah munch munch munch all by yourself and that looks weird.

 

That's indeed true. Whenever I'm alone in public, and I get the feeling that people are looking at me weird I'll whip my phone on it and text someone. I don't know why but it just makes me feel less awkward.

Some people eat more than they need to live, I mean look at the obesity rate in America. At least half of the obese could help it by not eating as much as they do. Eating is not just a necessity, but indeed a social activity.

 

How is eating to live not necessarily true? I didn't say anything about excessively eating or obesity. I merely said that you eat to live. You need energy, you get energy from food.

What I meant was, eating is needed to live, BUT some people also treat it as a social activity.

For some people it is.

For me it generally isn't. I tend to eat by myself, and if it is with someone, I eat the meal quickly and leave.

 

Eating at home - hardly.
Eating out with someone else - Definetly
Eating out alone - It can be.

I'd say yes. How boring would it be and how just sad would you look going to McDonalds or Burger King and eating in alone? The only time I get fast food alone is if I'm coming home at 1 or 2AM and want to get a burger and shake from McDonalds; I go through the drive-thru. It's like what you guys are saying about movies and concerts, there just some things you don't do alone, and eating out is probably number 1.

50/50 You can eat on your own i.e. go grab something to eat on your break from work.

well, the only reason i go to mcdonalds is for the dollar menu

the only time i don't use the drive-through window is when i'm with friends, so yeah, eating is sort of a social activity, i mean it definitely is if you think about family dinners and gatherings and whatnot

I'm the kinda guy that has friends, but is not really outgoing and sociall, i prefer doign things by myself.. but i still i have agf and a ton of friends, i may be the only one lol, but yes, SOMTIMES i eat with ppl, when i need to think or somthing i go by myself
