Pokemon Platinum/DS

So I recentlly purchased the new DSi, and to my dismay the R4 does not work on it (for those who don't know, its a ds-size cartridge into which you can insert a micro sd and play any possible DS game from it for free).

Seeing as my Lite is broken when i tried to mod it, I was thinking if I should actually spend money on Pokemon platinum. what concerns me is,
1. Will i be able to do all the wifi battle/trade crap if I decide to play it from my R4?
2. Are there any game functions that cannot work in the R4?
3. Is it possible to use cheats with it in the R4 (seeing you can't put it into an action replay)?
4. if i lose my sd card, but say I have the copied data file saved on my computer, will I be able to play it on another R4?

I don't want to become greedy and raise three pokemon to level 100 on the R4 version only to relize I can't do anything with them... so any and all advice is appreciated

edit: I am going to figure out how to buy/steal a motherboard for my old Lite, so that will soon be operational as well, that is why I said I will still use my R4.

No you cannot, I have no idea why but my friend has trouble doing that as well :\.

You cannot use the wifi, communicate with friends, battle, trade, etc.

That depends on the availability of cheats. I'd say in time, there is bound to be some.

I believe so.


All in all, I'd suggest you might spend a good 35 dollars on Pokemon Platinum. Though it's the exact same thing as Diamond and Pearl, it's still fun having all the games and showing off lol. I can only think of some differential but it's still better then D & P <3

No.

You can't use Pal Park, Wifi, etc.

Use the built in action replay in an emulator (No$GBA is good), save, then import the save file to the R4.

As long as you copy the save file to your computer it should be fine.

EDIT: It's always better to have the original, that way you won't have problems if the ROM was badly ripped, or something along those lines. And it's always nice to have the box/real cartridge.

 

Pokemon Platinum + R4 works fine for me.

If it matters any, I'm using the YSMenu firmware. (Normal R4 firmware is incompatible with many games)

Yes. (It seems I am the only one here that it works for.)

If you buy a bootleg r4 (meaning if the full name isn't "R4 Revolution") then cheats won't work.

Yes.

ALSO: If you want to use a flash cart with your DSi, get an Ace Kard. It's the only one released so far that actually works on the DSi.

None of the original DS flashcarts work with DSi. Research these stuff before you buy it

Wifi, should be fine. I haven't seen any reports of people saying the ROM has problems running on flashcarts. Search around on GBAtemp.net for information.

Not that I'm aware of. Certain games might lag or freeze, but very rarely do they have problems. "Search R4 Compatibility" of Google, you'll find a list of all games and their compatibility with R4

R4 has inbuilt action replay, you just need to update the cheat file so it includes the Pokemon Platnium Cheats providing there are ones. There's a prolem with R4 not showing all the cheats, but using the cheat file that only includes American and European ROMs prevents this.

The game and save file should be the same therefore it should work. (ie. Name.nds and Name.sav: NOT Name1.nds and name1.sav)

What I do is save all my save files on my computer. All microSD cards can corrupt, this is a simple way to prevent loss of gameplay.
