    Is eating a social activity?

Well, as i work at McDonalds i see thousands of people come in and out of the store each and every day. Usually when i see a person eating, there is another person there with them. Sometimes there are people by themselves, but rarely.

So my question to you is this, do you think eating is a social activity?

    Why or why not?

    Is eating a social activity?

    Of course.

If you go on a date, you usually go out to eat.. If you're with friends, same thing, you usually end up eating somewhere. I never eat alone in public; it's awkward.

I agree, It's very awkward indeed, you can put it that way as if you go on a date. I guess the fact that, when someone is very depressed, they can't eat by themselves, and I mean almost everyone eats McDonalds whether you go with friends, or family. If your depressed you'd probably wouldn't go by yourself you'd go with a friend or a family member. So I'd guess as an example above I'd say it could be at times and at other times it can't.

Doesn't have to be a social activity, people just don't want to be seen alone and eating alone. I bet you as long as there is someone sitting with them, even if they barely know them, they wouldn't mind eating there as much after.

I wouldn't mind eating alone at a restaurant that has a nice view where i can just sit down, relax, and enjoy my meal.

But at most Mcdonalds, Burger Kings, and other fast foods, it's just stupid to waste time sitting there like a bum eating alone. Rather just go through the drive-through and eat somewhere nice, such as my home.

I do think it is a social activity though, when people think of going to restaurants whether it be a fast food or a nice one, they like to bring their friends or family along and enjoy it.

    Is eating a social activity?

    I believe it can be.

In regards to why, occasionally I will invite people to come eat with me. That, or every now and then I will actually see someone in the restaurant that I know. I invite them to sit down and engage in a conversation. If it is with my girlfriend, I would consider that a date.

However, if I am persay by myself, I pretty much try to eat as quickly as I can and get it done and over with so I may leave.

Usually if im going to get something to eat from work, ill more than likely find someone on break to chit chat with, so im not too bored!

And if i do eat alone, i am usually texting a lot!

    Is eating a social activity?

For me it is most of the time, I go to McDonalds with my friends every once in a while just so we have something to do while we're hanging out. We also just eat shit out of the pantry sometimes while we're hanging out.

    Is eating a social activity?

Of course it is, it has brought people together from the beginning of time. A lot of relationships are formed over food.

I've eaten alone a number of times, it doesn't bother me unless lots of people are around. If lots of people are around i feel like they are all looking at me and thinking i have no friends lol.

    Is eating a social activity?

    /agree 100%

When I eat alone in public I feel really awkward and out of place, kind of like everyone is staring at me and thinking "who is this freak sitting over there alone?"

    Is eating a social activity?

I've never been to movies alone before although regardless movies are lame

Movies aren't social at all.. You sit around and watch a movie and nobody talks or anything

I've been to one concert alone because my friends bailed and I still had an awesome time. I find my friends kind of hold me back at concerts unless they dance in the pits. I just meet new people and have a great time

Eating with people is definitely social

Eating alone is just a means of survival

    Is eating a social activity?

Yes absolutely, eating is a mixture of friends, food, and the soul. When you bite in to a double cheeseburger, it's much more than taste it's "good for your soul" -SpongeBob

    Is eating a social activity?

I go to shows all the time on my own and much prefer it to going with a group, not only because most of my friends don't listen to the same style of music as me but also as you say they kinda hold you back, you're stuck doing what ever the person you came with wants to do and as a result it kinda ruins the experience.
