I think your standards need to be upped a bit, I'm just saying there's been a spike of mods chosen that have been banned/demoted.

    Just my 2 cents.

Standards are already high. It's human nature for people to give into temptation and such, and sadly some mods do let this take advantage of them. A majority of the moderators, past and present are genuine and never had/will have any reason to get banned or demoted unless requested.

Just because a statistic is a minority does not mean it should be overlooked.

This is often the downfall of many websites.

Not intending to offend you, or the mod selectors/system.

Rubbish. The current one system is already hard to pass. Making it any harder would undermined any possibility of anyone ever getting moderator. The only thing that needs to be changed is the bias that is in the staff polling system, as you have to gain acceptance. Which is not always bad.

Yes, but the fact that I saw in the same like 4 minutes 5 mods that were permanently banned, and an admin shows something.

And I agree a bit, except I do not have a lot of knowledge about the selection system, but if it's like you said where you gain it instead of earn it sometimes, that is pretty biased.

On a game I played in like 06, the mods polled in mod section about new mods, and they said yes/no pretty much purely based on friendship.

It crashed and burned pretty much because of that.

But it's not always bad, like if I were a mod and said yes to my friend "Bob" just because I have had experience with him and think eh would be kick ass as a mod in a certain section, but he has like 34 posts in that section.

I would still have a reason, but that could also be called earning it, but he wouldn't have done anything on the site to deserve it.

It get's complicated, but I'm tryign to be clear as to what I am saying.

    I'm pretty sure it goes...

    Mod is suggested

    voted on

    and modded

There is no evaluation stuff and its really not that hard to pass. All you have to do is be liked by the other staff and somewhat prove you can do a good job. Its always a chance the staff take when making a new person a mod because they don't know what they will do.

Why do you think a lot of old mods get remodded a lot?

I hate to like break this to you but, if it's so easy why don't you become a moderator?

The current system is good. Who ever the staff thinks is good for the job, and can handle it will choose.

Mods pick who they think would be the best choice as a mod... There is a limited user base that is mod worthy, so its hard to pick. We can not know what a person will do with power until they have it.

I quite honestly can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.

Sorry if that offends you. :(
True, one of the massive flaws of forums.

Why would you want moderator status anyway? Doesn't make you any-more special than other users. Everyones human, just because someone has a title that says "Moderator". Doesn't mean they are better than you. If your here just to try become a moderator then, boy.. I suggest you slap your-self once or twice.

Exactly why the # of mods and admins banned spiked tremendously.
I want to know if you read my thread before posting.

I meant the bias in that people who are friends with mods generally get in. Which leads to sucking up.

    No...

The process of promoting staff members is intensive. We don't promote idiots, but there are obviously occasions when a new staff member acts incorrectly. They will be demoted and banned if this is the case. Such incidents have not been more or less common recently - it has happened a number of times over the years, and each time the issue has been resolved eventually. Fundamentally, in the majority of cases of promotion, the new staff member is excellent and fully adheres to the code by which all staff members must abide.

Regarding the process itself, for those who don't know, it goes like this:

1.) A Global Moderator or Administrator suggests a candidate.
2.) The candidate's ability as well as other aspects are rigorously discussed.
3.) The candidate is voted on by all Global Moderators and Administrators, excluding Sythe.
4.) If they gain a certain percentage in the poll, they are promoted. If they do not reach majority, they are not promoted.

Finally, people keep saying ''people get promoted if they suck up to the staff members''.

This claim is fallacious. Firstly, staff members have to present their reasoning for voting in a certain way, and reasoning is both examined and, if necessary, questioned. Secondly, the staff are generally very mature.

That sounds like a very structured way to select moderators.
Better than a lot of forums, to bad there isn't a way to tell what someone will do with power until they get it, besides give them it...
