    Freedom of speech

In my opinion the general idea is still supported but not to the same extent as it may have been in the past. Before people could get up say their stuff and sit down and most others that heard them would either disagree or agree end of story. Nowadays you can get in a lot of trouble for having certain views that are supportable by the constitution. Nonetheless the modern schools have totally gone against the idea of freedom of speech. I for one got suspended for making a slightly off mark joke to my friend which was just retarded, the principal thought I was threatening this kid and even if I meant it seriously anyone who heard what happened in full detail would see that I was the one being threatened but that's not too important lol the idea was I should have been allowed to say what I did and get away with it. My other friend, in a different school, he was told he and his friends were not allowed to have confederate flags hanging on their car or have any such thing anywhere near the school. Three of his friends flew them on their graduation day and they weren't allowed to walk in the service. Irregardless whether or not you believe they were idiots for having those flags in the first place, they should have the right to express their views and celebrate the history of their country. It's stupid that this country is coming to this but really we are being limited in our ability to speak more and more. Just look at back in the 50's with the red scare, people were being sent to jail because they had slightly communist views, if any sometimes they were simply being accused of something they didn't do. It's just crazy.

Yes... of course there is freedom of speech in the United States. Just if you say something there may be consequences. (Not someone taking you away and what not but other people reacting and making a big deal out of it.)

^I have to disagree. Im sorry but freedom of speech is gone. Before it was like you said, you can say what you want, but there is consequences. But now, if you go to a mayors speech, or the presidents, or anybodies of authority. They can get you removed if you even say, i disagree.

    Freedom of speech

Freedom of speech still exist. Any acts against the Freedom of Speech will be stroked down by the Supreme Court.

Of coures you can be thrown out by bad mouthing at an Obama speech or someone of power. That however doesn't cancel out freedom of speech.

Freedom of Speech still exists. It's just people are abusing it horribly, therefore people have started cracking down on it. It still exists, very slightly, but still there.

Of course freedom of speech exists.....to some extent. Compared to many other nations of the world, the US holds a very high degree of free speech, but of course, as Murphy said, you cannot expect to have totally equal rights in a privately owned area.

Public speech doesn't exist in schools even though it's in the student rights. Might be time to call my uncle about this for a jackass teacher at my school.

The excuse is, if you're not 18, you don't have any.

And what this means is, If we can't do shit to you, then we're not going to let you do shit.

    Freedom of speech

The problem is that teens and young adults these days are trying to abuse the system. They say whatever they want and then say that "Freedom of Speech" protects them from getting in trouble. Now this forum is probably the worst place to have a thread like this, since 90% of the members are between the ages of 12 and 25. One last thing, how is Freedom of Speech any different then it was 30 years ago. No one here can answer that I know.

    Freedom of speech

In the 1700's when the Colonies broke from England, politicians, and law makers had invented that law for pure politics, not for saying, "Faux u g0 t0 h311!"

It purly based on the right to say your opinion the goverment, so you wernt beaten.

    Freedom of Speech

In my eyes... fredom of speech EXISTS however upto the point where it breaches upon someone else's human rights. For example as justafan mentioned about him getting suspended. It is a human right not to be threatened and any breach upon that right or suspected breach upon that right caused my someone's freedom to speech will become sanctioned...

However you are still free to say WHATEVER you wish... No one can stop you speaking... Just the consequences after you have spoken is what you will have to deal with.

Further freedom of speech is limited by people themselves. People know not to make racist remarks for instance or people know that they shouldn't swear even though it is unspoken not to.

Further in the UK there is definitely not a freedom of speech as it is against the law to swear in public...

Once again just a few of my points :)

Because when people try and use Freedom of Speech as there defense usually what the said was disrespectful. Back in the day there was a thing called respect.

    So what?
I see nothing wrong with saying anything I want - it doesn't hurt anybody. Just because your speech is disrespectful is grounds for censoring it?
