Sent a followup today, the woman had an automatic response that status "I'll return wednesday"

Hopefully I'll have some definitive information tomorrow when they can confirm or deny my candidacy

nothing. She said “we are very close to a decision” WHAT IS YOU WAITING FOR

I got an email after I checked in FOR THE THIRD FUCKING TIME, and she said

Essentially they delayed me 3.5 weeks because the first place finalist couldn't make up their damn minds, BUT I didn't get it because it was a lower position, and they've referred me to interview today with the political subsect director as his product manager.

Will let you know how it goes

Yep that's a bummer but the way hiring works when companies know they have the pick of the litter during inclement economic times.

Honestly? I'd look elsewhere unless this is your dream company. Clearly you have talent, experience and knowledge. Don't waste it where you were strung you along like a plan B prom date for nearly a month.

 

Honestly didn't really think too much on that, but it's true. I get it that you're careful about letting good talent go while waiting for your first pick to accept, but after 6 weeks? fuck off.

EDIT: Oh, not to mention, the part-time contract I picked up at an investment firm suddenly turned into full time, and I'm making almost as I was at disney, so I'm not even really strapped to get this job. I just wanted an excuse to live in Washington DC tbh

I got an offer. They lowballed like lil bitches. I declined the offer and requested $20,000 more than what they sent me.

fortunately I’m in a good position.

First, I know they desperately need this product manager position to be created. They don’t have a product presence, they’re letting the editors make the decisions and it’s costing them money because they don’t have the expertise.

Second, I know they aren’t interviewing anyone else, my application to this role was an internal referral and they haven’t begun official resource acquisition. If they don’t get me, they will have to open the acquisition to traditional interviews which means making a job description, sending it to recruiting platforms, interviewing a dozen people, and hoping one will accept a lowball. It would take them 3 months to fill this role minimum if I decline.

Third, I was told repeatedly everyone loves me and would be excited to have me there.

I slapped them in the face with my PMP certification that I acquired midway through the 2 months of applying to this company, and gave them transparency on how much I was making in my previous roles. The guy was dejected I declined, but he said he’ll have to wait until HR returns Monday in order to submit my $20k increase, and he’ll return with a new offer.
