Do you think people who are mistreated or hurt or even killed there deserve it? no matter their crime.

I think it's just karma putting people in their supposed place.

I think people should be punished to learn their lesson, not be penalized by death. After a few several occurrences, then perhaps, depending on the serious of the crime.

The punishment system is meant to serve as a learning system. People should from their mistakes and grow.

It's a natural human nature to make mistakes and people should be given the chance to learn and grow from it.

Fool me once, shame on me.
Fool me twice, shame on you.

    In most circumstances, no.

Are there people in jail who deserve it? Probably. The law is imperfect, and not all verdicts are what they should be. I do support the death penalty, so in theory, if a criminal who got off light on a technicality died from other circumstances in prison, I could only weakly object (and then, only because I think even criminals deserve a painless death).

However, I don't think anyone would wish mistreatment on anyone who is already paying for their crime fairly. Unfortunately, every system has flaws.

    "...no matter their crime."

That is the deciding factor in the decision of whether or not they deserve it.

Usually people who have committed an extremely heinous crime may deserve death, but I generally feel if they are to be killed, then may it be at the hands of the jail system and not at the hands of the inmates.

Also, pokemoners, are you Buddhist? I think you'd like it. As a response to what you've said, however, I feel that some people are beyond rehabilitation, and that it quite possibly the largest issues that our jail system is experiencing. By putting them in jail, you are only giving them a chance to grow and become stronger, making them more efficient and skilled at whatever crime they had committed before. You're only giving them strength, knowledge, and connections.

It is all based on the individual.

I believe if 'you commit a crime, you do the time'
I mean, if you seriously can bring yourself to explain your actions of robbing someone, raping someone, KILLING someone is justified then you seriously need to be kept away from society and rehabilitated.

Speaking about prison, it provides accomodation, rehablitation programmes, food and other basic needs for free which is a bonus for the vile people lounging in our prisons.

Honestly I think that the prisons are taking it to easy on criminals. Like the guy above said, they get food, a bed, weight lifting, rehab, and a butt load more. Do they pay a dime for it? No.

I think that if you kill someone and get a life sentence what is the point? The government is going to spend $20,000 a year on you until you die. One of the biggest wastes of money in this country.

One last thing, the death penalty. That is probably the most screwed up part of our legal system. A guy who kills 20 people gets sentenced to death. So he then gets to wait for about 5 years in a cell while the government pays for all his accommodations and food, a huge waste of money. How easy would it be to just, after the sentence is announced take them into a room in the back and put a bullet in his head. Much quicker, much cheaper.

    So you get the point.

Personally, I don't support the death penalty for two reasons:
    1) I would rather them suffer for life (or w/e their sentence is) in a dinky cell where insects are your only friends.
    2) If we kill them, we stoop down to their level of humanity (again, depending on their sentence).

Call me harsh, but I feel that, "If you do the crime, you do the time", no matter the condition. (unless your innocent)

So if we let them suffer we are more humane then if we kill them instantly?

I don't know if you guys have heard, but there are now prisons called Blue Collar Prisons. You have to pay for them, but it is cheap and they are actually better than some motels.

Considering that we feed them, shelter them, and offer them recreational services, yes it is more humane.

    In most circumstances, no.

Not everyone is in prison for a bad reason, it's not fair for the ones who may be in there for a simple violation for their probation, for something as simple as a traffic ticket. But, most of this is avoided with putting the bad ones in certain cell block's, and the ones with less of a reason of being in there in a nicer block.

I agree with this idea. However i think that capital punishment is necessary for the worse ones. This saves money for the government rather then to continually feed/look after them for many years.

Some times they just go to jail for something that they didnt do... I know this does not happen that much but when it does the judge who send him their must feel like shit if he gets killed or raped in jail.
