District Web Filter - Amusing but not really...

This has nothing to do with April Fool's day, or any sort of practical joke. About a month ago, our district stopped using Websense and began there own web filtering system. It's so bad even the teachers hate it...

But this particular instance bothered me, I saw it a few days ago...



Google Search "Anarchy"



Blocked for CAT "Terror".

Alternatively, I can search "How to make a bomb", "Al Quaeda", "Fascism" with no problems... I actually COULDN'T get another other search term to come up with that sort of block...Well, this is following expulsions at our school for weed possesion outside of school, suspensions for making jokes outside of school... I just don't get it.

Makes me wonder what the G stands for.

 

That's pretty ridiculous I hate how some schools try to be so strict with everything.

 

My school blocked Wikipedia -_-

 

We have a load of sites blocked. The firewall is so shitty, and so is the security, I can view almost all the admin files...

All the ports are locked down pretty hard, it's being filtered through the district not school. Remote VPN probably the best way, haven't tested it at our school yet though. Websense was easy to proxy through.

I wouldn't expect much, but who knows? Maybe they would loosen the restrictions. :|

 

That stinks for the students, but Wikipedia is against school's policy.

If I were you I would just drop it. School is meant to be boring. Even though you can't search dumb random things. I was kicked off my counties computer for a year and got 10 days of Out of school suspention because I was pissed off at the school systems computer. That 1 year really slowed me down in high school. I couldn't take good tech classes because of it.

It's school. Go learn to make bombs in your house and use a proxy. School systems takes things a lot more serious, if you would have gotten caught for that :\.

 

Unlucky but saying that my old Highschool blocked Yahoo, Youtube, Facebook, Wikipedia and loads of other common sites.

 

My school's security is so shitty. I put a keylogger on the computer via jump-drive and got the teachers password. I got into the administrator files by copying a cracker into My Documents from my jump-drive. Surprisingly, the password was "admin".

 

lol al the dumb words are blocked at our school like "wine" is blocked :S

works at my school and it gets blocked and unblocked the next day somehow been using it for a while.

and google "google daily proxys" and there should be a thing were this dude post new proxys each day only the .com ones work at my school.
