Guide To Setting Up a Home Network

This guide will teach you to setup a wireless network in your home with security features. Basically to get started get the following things ready.

    Things Needed:

    1.Broadband/Cable Modem
    [IMG]
    2.Wireless/Wired Router
    [IMG]
    3.Ethernet cables
    [IMG]
4.And a good position in your home for all this to but setup.

    STEP 1:
First thing you would want to do is Unplug your modem. Now that is done, disconnect the Ethernet cable that is linked to your PC from your modem.

    STEP 2:

Once that’s done get the end up of the cable that was linked to the PC and plug it into the special socket in your Router. Now If you’re going to keep your PC kept on a wired connection you should link an Ethernet cable from your router directly to your PC.

    STEP 3:

Plug everything back in and you should have something looking like this.

    FINAL STEP:
From here you should be good to go, some routers such as Belkin or Linksys may require you to install the CD given with the router and that shouldn’t be a problem, follow the instructions and your good to go.

    EXTRA SECURITY
Software I recommend if you’re a person who likes to keep their network private is "network Magic". It’s free to download for a certain amount of time, 30-60 days after that its about 50 dollars though well worth the price. Here's the link to the download. http://www.purenetworks.com

What is the point of this....Don't you have to already have this setup, or some other kind of network to be able to be reading this?

Well a network is if you have more than 1 device so that you can connect them all to the internet. A lot of faimly's just have 1 PC and 1 modem so if they wanted to start a network :) this is how it's done.

Well, I didn't think this guide was good. Why make a guide that is so straight foreward, and obvious. I guess this is good for someone who lost the manual, up until where you get an issue which this guide is then completley garbage.

I agree with mike, you should pick a better topic, don't pick topics that you cannot elaborate on. This is basic information on the booklet that comes with any router etc, maybe if you use your own picture and edit them with arrows on where things go it'll be better.
