High Pitched sound?

My friends tell me about this high-pitched sound that only people under the age of 40 can hear.

I personally can hear it but if anyone else heard it or can't here it, share.

I don't know any links to it but whats with the sound?

like a sound that you hear when you hear nothing else? like if you were alone in a room you can then hear it? if there is no sound in the room you can hear it?

 

Its like a screetch. Its really high pitched and older people cannot hear it.

Its sorta like a ringing in your ear and its really annoying.
My friend had the sound on his Ipod touch ( an app ) and I play;d the sound and asked my Grandpa if h could hear it, he said he couldn't, but me and my friend could both hear it perfectly.

 

oh ya it annoys me when i try to sleep it seems to be louder after listening to music or something tho. like i usually have my music on well not blasting or anything but pretty loud and i use headphones then when i take em off the high pitched noise is like really noticable =\

My friends have their phones make that sound when someone is calling or texting them and my teachers don't hear a thing...

I had bunch of these ringtones a while back.
Some of them worked...my parrents were unable to hear them.
and some didnt work.
I guess i depends which person can hear it or not.

 

I believe it's called the "Mosquito Ringtone"

 

They work because of the small hairs in your ears. These hairs pick up vibrations and turn them into electrical signals, and send them to your brain. When you are younger, these hairs are strong and long, but as you get older, these hairs start to erode and deteriorate. This causes older people to not hear extremely high and low noises.

I found one called 'Dog Whistle', which allows you to choose your frequency.

 

Yeah, it's a ringtone on some cell phones so kids can have their phone on ring without the teacher asking whose phone it is. I don't risk it though, I just keep my phone on vibrate.

 

Hehe, I found this before, mine was called "Act Teenbuzz" I could hear it, nobody else could though. :S

Not sure why adults can't hear it, probably just too high pitched.

 

Noooo not that noise, I know what you're talking about though, usually prevelant when it's silent.

But the noise you're looking for is called Mosquito, it's annoying as hell. I have it on my phone and my parents can't hear it.

 

Its the mosquito noise I beleive. The reason adults can't hear it is because they have lost certain frequencies due to loud music, ect. Grade 9 SCIENCE BABY.

 

I hear this sometimes for no reason. I've heard about this, It's very annoying. But I can handle it. I used to have it on my phone.

 

the thing is u might not be able too hear it because of your headphones/speakers you need a good pair because of the such low freceices they play on when you go too buy headphones look for 1's that like say frenceies 1-10000 then you got like a good pair too listen too music too like full quliaty and you can listen too the mosquito ringtone

 

Those are old school. Like 2 - 3 years ago it was common for people to have them as message/ring tones on their phone so when they get a call/message, the teachers can't hear it.
