    Legalize Marijuana?

I oppose and am for it.

I do NOT like the idea of drugs. Of course the people who do them will say its not as bad as they are made out to be. They don't wanna know they are commiting suicide and killing themselves.

But making it illegal just fills our jails with unintelligent people who are stupid enough to do drugs, sell them, or are even SO stupid they can't figure out how to make their own decision.

Yes they should be legal. But people should be EDUCATED about them. It shouldn't become a common thing like drinking is.

    Legalize Marijuana?

Contrary to most posters here, I have a logical basis for my vote.

I voted NO for two (2) main reasons.

    1. If marijuana was to be legalized then the United States government would have to free ALL the criminals who were charged with possesion of marijuana or its products.

If you are still saying "so what?" then let me hit you with some numbers:

Nearly 13% of the ENTIRE population of the United States are currently serving time behind bars. 25% of that 13% are there for drug and illegal substance charges. If you were to take a rough (very rough) estimate of that quarter of all inmates nationwide, you could probably say that nearly a third of them are on marijuana charges (basing it off the fact that marijuana is the most popular and easily obtainable drug in the country).

Broken down in number format it would look like:

    Code:
300M (total population of the US)
    39M (rounded population of inmates)
9.75M (population in for drug charges)
[B][U]3.22M (estimated population in for marijuana charges)[/U][/B]
3.22 MILLION people who are currently serving prison time that will be let loose to roam the free world.

    2. The prices of marijuana will drop drastically due to minimal effort it would take to obtain it.

Young people and those who have never tried it will become increasingly pressured into doing it with the reason "its not like its illegal or something."

People who do become bienge smokers and marijuana addicts will litter the roadways and stores accross the country making it an even less safer place than it already is.

With mass addictions comes the need to feed the fire; MONEY. When people hit rock bottom they will revert back to what they do now. Stealing and pawning items will increase X-fold.

Conclusion: You are free to say whatever you'd like, however my vote and morals say NO. Its way too late in the game to start making changes now. "The trade deadline [early stage] has passed and we need to keep our players [rules/laws]." Thank you for reading.

    Legalize Marijuana?

    1. Awesome. States would be literally saving millions of dollars by releasing the prisoners. I'd also like to note nine out of ten of these prison detainees were arresting only for possession. They weren't illegal dealing, etc. The fact of the matter is, Mr. SwiftSeller, not all people are "bad" who are in prison on drug charges.

If you're concerned regarding a flow of of people, well, I'm afraid your statistics are off. According to the US Bureau of Justice, we have 2.3 million people in jail. This number includes all the robbers, murderers: every felony. 750,000 people are arrested for marijuana every year in the United States. As said above, 9/10 are only for possession. These people only end up serving a month or less depending on state law. So really, there's nothing to be concerned about.

    2. I'm sorry, but your second argument is unbelievably full of falsities I can't be bothered to post them all. And why are you using that font, man?

    Legalize Marijuana?

    Since [N]ick answered #1, I will do #2.

Prices will not drop drasticly, because if it will be regulated, the production can be kept within limits. Marijuana is tolerated in the netherlands and marijuana is still expensive. €7,- for 1 gram for quality stuff (some types, like Super Silver Haze are €14). Prices will only drop (to around €3-4 per gram) when it's the harvest season, because everybody will have alot of weed at the same time. But eventually the price will raise again.

Young people who never tried it will not become pressured, because it's legal. In the Netherlands kids don't get pressured to use marijuana because it's "legal". Most kids at my school haven't even tried pot. You might think that that is odd. Well, it's not. Because marijuana is so widely available and everybody can obtain it, it looses it's "bad ass" status. People don't see smoking pot as being tough or gangstah. There are ofcourse minors who smoke marijuana but it's not a problem.

Binge smokers? C'mon! The more stoned you get, the less you smoke, unlike alcohol, which makes you feel overconfident and tricks your mind into thinking you can drink more. Marijuana addicts? Marijuana is only mentally addicting, that means only the weakminded will get addicted.
Potheads will not litter the roadways and stores, that is just bullshit. Potheads are actually a great income for foodstores, because stoned people can get the munchies. Legalizing marijuana won't make the world a less safer place, but a much safer place. Marijuana won't be in the hands of criminals anymore.

I find it hard to believe that you will hit rock bottom from smoking marijuana. Other drugs like crack or heroin, yes. Pot? No! People will not start stealing and pawning items, because they don't need to. Good example is me at the moment. I am out of money and I smoke pot for around 3 years now. I don't feel dependent. I can quit whenever I want. The last days that I didn't smoke, I did not feel the urge to smoke pot. I did not feel the urge to steal money from my parents to buy more weed.

And I have a question for you: have you ever tried pot?

    Legalize Marijuana?

I might argue against that :p

I'd consider that to be a good thing - less strain on the taxpayer and less nonviolent offenders in jails.

You're telling me about 39million Americans are in prisons?
The actual number is more like 1 in 100, still absurdly high, but not that high
Again, I'd dispute some of those numbers but it isn't a big deal. If marijuana was legal, I'd assume only those convicted only for selling or using marijuana would be released - why is that bad? Simply selling drugs or using drugs doesn't harm anybody.
Are those same people pressured into using tobacco? And even if they are so what? Is that grounds for telling everybody else they cannot use it?
Marijuana isn't physically addictive. I wouldn't consider a stoner to be much of a threat either, ha. They probably just want to find a couch and some munchies and waste their time.
Again, marijuana isn't addictive. Even if it was, you should punish them for stealing and not hurt everybody who uses marijuana responsibly.

It comes down to this: why do you think you can tell people what they can and cannot put in their bodies?

    Legalize Marijuana?

It would break down a lot of crime and all, but it would be like what alcohol does to people already. There can be a lot more people high, and high drivers are just as bad as drunk, and worse. So there is both sides to the story.

    Legalize Marijuana?

I think that is one of the most important parts of this.
By keeping marijuana illegal you are associating the growing and selling of it with other criminal activities. You get gangs growing it, fighting over it, etc. It is also a huge source of revenue for people who actually should be considered criminals, unlike the users of the plant. If it was legalized it would become a legitimate industry and criminals would lose a major source of funding. Not only that, but quality would go up and price down.

    Legalize Marijuana?

100% agree with you, in december 2008 i was charged with "minor in possession" although i dont see how im a minor in possession of an illegal drug but its better then having a illegal drug charge against me, i was 16 at the time therefore i am being charged as a minor, now im 17 and therefore they cannot charge me as an adult because the fact i was a minor when it happened. anyway, my court date is April 14, 2009 and although im nervous about it, i think i can handle it. hopefully they let me pay my dues and get on with my life, recently ive quit smoking weed, (flame me if u like) i dont necessarily disagree with people who smoke weed, just im going to wait till its legalized. i havent gotten in any serous trouble since my minor in possession charge other then being suspended from school for a week because i had a pocket knife in my truck (kinda bs but w\e). this is my life story\my view on marijuana.

You're so fucking lucky, when I become an adult I'm going on vacation there for sure.

I've seen high people before and they do no harm to anyone else, I literally see no reason why it's even illegal, except for people that are stupid enough to get in their car while they're high, unless they're hot boxing in their car, then it's okay.

I think that if it was legalized, wouldn`t it take the fun out of it. Keeping secrets from your parents and junk like that. I wonder if my parents would let my smoke marijuana if it was legal. We`ll have to wait and see.

Cannibis should be legalised. Just like alcohol and Tobacco, people have to make a choice, we cant babysit everyone. To some people with certain desfunctions and illnesses Marijuana/Cannibis actually helps with the symptoms. Usual thing it is.

How did you get caught? Most stoners usually know how not to attract attention, there is not reason you should quit... just maybe be a little more stealth about it.

    Legalize Marijuana?

I'm going to sum this whole thing up with one word. No.

The prisoners wouldn't be released because at that time, they were breaking the law. Even if it was taken down, they still broke the law no matter what and should finish their sentence. But not have to go through probation.

And I doubt you've been high. Because stoners, can lose their high pretty damn quick. Like when you're high, and you see the cops, BAM! it's fucking gone, and you're alright. Driving high is a different story. My brother does it all the time, nothing different from when regular.

And, weed, isn't like coke/meth. I doubt you've even smoked it/been around it.
