A little taste of my runescape life.

Well, unfornately I don't have many pictures from my very old runescape days. But I will tell a story, than later on show pictures with explainations.

Hi, my name is luring2live and I have played runescape for almost 5 years (I started in 2004). I first started at the beginning of high school with 3 of my close friends. They had been playing for a little longer than myself and showed me around runescape and give me a few good starting items.

At level 10 I BECAME A MEMBER. I than found my very first clue scroll, which as a reward gave me a black helm(t) (worth 50k than). I was so happy to have got this, but a mysterious poisonious plant took it away from me. It all started when I was training my attack in lumbridge near the goblins. All of a sudden a strange plant appeared infront of me, like any other low level player I thought nothing of it and presumed fighting the goblins. As to what I didn't know is that the plant is able to poison you, I thought if you log out the poison would go away. It didn't and I ended up not running for my black helm, but logging off for a drink -.- (I didn't know the items dropped, I thought they disappeared).

In my opinion, in the old runescape days of earlier rs2 it was a bit harder to get the just of the game. This being that we didn't have 1000 tutorials on everything and not all these different safety things. The game actually felt as if it was a game for my age group, which brings me to my second unfornate death by the name potter23.

I had just recieved a set of iron from a close irl friend and I thought everything was going just peachy as a level 14, until potter23 came along that is. He tricked me into the old scam of dark wizards below varrock. This scam is where you get a low level player to walk into the area and a level 21 wizard (I think) will usually kill you. I was so mad because I had never done anything to hurt any player in this particular game and than he comes along. I begged this player for a few hours for my items back, but he just said "no noob go away".

A few months had past and as my levels grew so did my money and my fierce compition with my closest friend peter (will not say ingame name). Peter had started this game about a year before I did and was level 70. He was quite a rich player for this time with around a mask set, 2 santa's, a few pumpkins, and a disk of returning. I was never as rich as this because I didn't know how to merchant and do certain things such as this. This is what gave me the fire to become better, stronger, and more fierce.

Another few months had gone by and the year 2005 was approaching, which brought another yet useless holiday item. I honestly don't even remember what item it was, but it was a fun christmas anyways. During the 2 week holiday from school, I decided that I was going to train as much as I could. As a level 50, I wanted to become all I could be. Thus, enabling me to train my magic and runecrafting for a chance.

At this point I had a low magic level of 32 and I wanted to get this as high as possible. I decided to buy an air staff, chaos runes and go out into the good old wilderness. I spent night and day training my magic level in the wilderness, which was actually a fun way to train back than. After a few days, I was able to use fire bolt but didn't want to waste so many fire runes. I bought a fire staff in varrock and decided to do a few quests and mine some rune essence. After I mined the rune essence, I ran all around the world looking for that stupid alter. Funny thing is it was where I began looking (falador). What I would do is, fight in the wild with no food (like a lot of players did back than) and if I die I would mine some more essence and get some more airs. Now this is where my runecrafting pretty much all came from. I got my crafting from 1 to 40 doing this and my magic from 35 to 48.

At this point in time, I was a average player with a few 100k on him. I started scamming other people with the jug of wine scam. This scam was done near the wild, where if someone would take the jug of wine all the guys would attack you. Now if you were a low level player, there is no way to survive this with tons of people closing the door on you. After a few tries, I didn't make much and decided to stop because I heard someone talking about getting banned. After a few other noob scams like, bringing low levels into the wild and killing them for there items and the dark wizards scam below varrock, I decided to go pk again. I got my mage gear, but when I started maging a level 64. He used magic protect! I was shocked and pretty much swearing. I called him a hacker because I didn't know what prayer was back than. This is where it got funny, the exact time he used protect magic I leveled up and my attack stopped. Thus, me thinking that he used something to stop me from using magic attacks.

The 2005 era was a funny time, I had many friends and enemies. I had many drop parties and was well known on the runescape forums. At this point in time I was level 70 and thought highly of myself because I was able to scam other players easily. I used almost every scam in the book: the lottery scam, the scam where one player yells buying for 10mill and another says selling for 5mill, the trust scam, trimming scam, and a few trade scams. Than I stumbled onto the herb scam, which was a good one. The herb scam was when one person would be buying let's say a harralander and I would come up and sell herbs that were suppose to be harralander. The herbs wouldn't be harralander, I'd have them as guam. This gave me quite a profit and was one of the scams I did on my main account.

July was approaching in 2005 and I had a pretty decent account, with a few good skills. I was level 79 with 77 magic, 40 range (yay), 37 prayer, and I don't remember my melee skills. At this point I had already created a few pure accounts and went into the wild often with them. I was also going to a lot of drop parties and was getting quite a lot of items. My account had around 3mill on it in items/cash and I was very proud of it.

One foggy day, while I was in varrock west bank. I woman (don't remember the name) came up to me and asked if I wanted to go to her private drop party. She traded me and show me around 600mill in items/cash. As a fellow mager I brought a few telegrab runes a long with me. She led me to the wilderness above varrock. I actually didn't realize I was near the wilderness until the sign reminded me. She told me to wait there and she was going to drop the items all around. I was extremely excited, but also very nervous that something was not right. As the items came up one by one, I saw rune items and than the dreaded stack of cash. Since I had my telegrab runes with me, I started telegrabbing as many as I could starting with the cash. it was only 10k, but I was still happy I didn't get scammed. Especially because I had over 1mill on me and some items that I couldn't get again.

2006: IT ALL BEGAN!

At this point in time, autoers were everywhere you looked. Scammers ran most of the low wilderness areas and banks. Merchanters were becoming more and more known. I know wanted to become a even better scammer from what I saw from others and from what I heard from friends. This is also when ancients came out (I am not exactly sure about this).

Although the whip lure and some trade lures were very popular in 2006, I was more focused on the dark knight castle and edgeville lures. I had 81 magic and became a lurer and I did talk some of the time. After a few solo failed attempts at the dark knight castle lure, I decided to try a shot at desert treasure. Even though I knew it was one of the hardest quests out, I decided to tackle it.

As all of you know, some of the ancient magic attacks stop you from moving and that is what I wanted.

I decided that I would finish all of the quests I needed before getting the skills that were required. This was easy for me because I was a quester and had over 130qps. On the other hand, I was still short a few thieving levels and I still wanted to get my prayer level up. I tried to finish all the skills needed and quests before my weekend was over.

During the weekend:

After school on friday, I quickly beat the digsite quest and was well into getting my prayer to atleast 45. I accomplished it on saturday morning at 9:50am. I quickly went to the new theiving mini game where you get the theiving cape. I went from 50 to 53 on the vaults (or whatever there called). I reached this goal on saturday at 3:30pm and just before I reached my level, I decided to have a 53 thieving level party. I gave away a few items to the few people that decided to come and I got a picture of it.

Just after I got 53 theiving I got all the items I needed for the quest and started the quest after I ate supper on saturday. I was able to finishing the quest at 9:22pm on sunday. This was a very happy feeling for me because I was able to accomplish a great thing (in my opinion). I didn't go on for a few days because I wanted to get myself excited for this moment.

At last it begins:

I started getting very familiar with a lot of lurers, but I was particularly taken with the edgeville lure. There were two ways of doing this lure: One which everyone knew, was getting the person to meet you after the edgeville bridge and when they came into the wilderness and traded you. Your attacker would than come down and kill them. The other method, which was less known at the time. This was when you would get a player to meet you at the prayer guild or just below the prayer guild for the trade. You would wait in level 3 wilderness for them to come around the small mountain and than kill them. This is where I got the main just of my lures.

Modified:

When they introduced the wilderness ditch, my lure method was over, but new one's appeared with the coming of constuction. This brought 1 of my personal favourite lure method into the game. This method was also near the black knight castle, where you would drop the items above the ditch. This made it look like it was still in a safe zone, but it weren't.

After a while of these lure methods, I made an account canyoulie. This was my safe scamming account: trade scams and the duel arena scam. The duel arena scam was when you would trade the person to make sure he didn't have any mage gear on him. Than doing a really fast switch to make it so you can only mage in the fight. This was quite easy because a level 60+ thought they could defeat a level 24. The trade scam was when you would buy rune sets for 1mill and quickly change the amount to 10004, but with tons of items so it would be hard for the buyer to see the money. Another trade scam was with granite (500g), this is where you would target players on one account and ask them to look for an item for you. Than you would go onto another account and pretend to sell that items for a reasonable amount (500k+).

Another dreaded and retarded death:

One day while I was waiting for my talker to get me a lure, a level 87 with no armour and a dds came up to me and wanted to watch me lure. Thinking if he did attack me he wouldn't even hit high so who cares. Another one of my low leveled friends was there, which I was talking to at the time. All of a sudden, the ddser started to spec me and he was hitting in the frigging 20s. He 3 speced me and got my full ahrims, dds, whip, runes, and some food. I was so frigging angry because with all my bonus I barely hit 20+ on someone while luring. But I guess things are different for this guy? Also, the scam I was doing was above varrock near the bar. This is where you would drop 10k and made it look like 5mill+, as many players would run in and get the money. This is where your killer would run down and kill them for their items.

A few good days left (november 27th 2007):

At this point in time, they destroyed the duel arena and made so many stupid holiday items and retarded safety features. The game felt like it was for 5 year olds. Luckily I still had my luring (I was level 92 now with 84 magic). I was stilling making big loot, but I was also other people's talkers. I was pretty rich with about 33mill in items/cash and I was getting ready for my next drop party. This was going to be the biggest and best drop I had ever done. My 16th birthday drop, which was suppose to be on december 19th.

The day runescape became ruinedscape.

This was the day I feared most, but did not expect at all. I was stunned, speechless, and confused. I still had my drop, but I handed items out to people instead of doing a drop (because I couldn't). I pretty much gave everything away except about 12mill in cash (all I had left because I sold all my items when the wilderness was taken out). I was so pissed off because my birthday was ruined, everything I expect was not going to happen. I barely got any happy birthday's and it was just so depressing.

The last of it:

When they said that all trading was pretty much over after Jan first, I knew I only had a few weeks left of scamming and scam I did. For the next few weeks (until december 31st) I scammed my ass off with the trade scams. Although I only made a few mill, it was still a good last memory before I quit.

After the wilderness was gone I quit for a while (than I just recently came back).


Remembering that I had a runescape classic account, I decided to check it out (almost didn't log in for 3 years).


One day I let my friend play on my account while I was on vacation. This is what he did -.-



Runescape was more than just a game to me, it was a something to calm my nerves down after school or on a weekend. From loving the game to scamming others, I always felt like I could be on top.

Anyways, that is my story. Sorry if the grammer, spelling, and sentences are hard to understand. I wrote this at 3 in the morning and didn't really notice anything. Please leave a comment and rate on what you think of my runescape past.

Nice pictures and story. I am still trying to see if I can find the picture where someone lured me into the wilderness and got 14mil from me. I was merchanting at the time and some noob asked for help an they wound up scamming me and I lost all my money, a disk of returning and a bunch of armor lol.

I read the whole thing and it really brought back memories for me. I never got into scamming as much as you, but the game used to mean something. I really wish we could go back...

Those were truly the good ole days...
My irl friend and I would spend hours scamming people with the trust game. We made so much off that. Runescape will just never be the same...

 

You played that many years and only ended up with a 1300 total? Oh.

 

wow this was really effing long I cant beleive I read the whole thing . And thanks to lures like you i got scammed by the whip scam and lost like 2.3m. Also feel for other scam like the lumbridge caves & candle scam.
