Is public school bad?

I go to a Quaker private school in the US. I hate my school, but I would also hate the public school I would go to. If I went to public school, I would most likely be getting horrible grades just because of the way they teach, how I learn, and the level of effort I put into classes. I currently put in the smallest amount of effort possible in all school related activities and I get mostly As and some Bs. Now, if I went to a public school I would get worse grades because they teach you, and test you on how well you know facts. My school teaches and mainly tests you on how well you can think about a problem and give a answer. My school wants to teach you how to think, and does not care about facts. I have a whole rant against US public schools, but I have to go to lunch.

 

Alot of private school people are rich, im not...its not easy as people think they are better than you but i know its not true..rich kids are in both schools private and public,i feel i can be friends with whoever i want at public, not some jerks who flaunt there 50k cars in my face ect

 

I was once in private for kindergarten or something, I can't remember though, it was when my parents were new to the country so the owner gave me schooling for free as she got to know my parents. I think I started public school in Grade 1 and I am now in Grade 10. It's not all that bad, but once you get into Grade 9, lots of druggies are there.

If private schools were as good as public schools they wouldn't cost more money.

I like public school personally.

It gives you a good sense of who you can take and beat the shit out of, and when you're supposed to keep you mouth shut.

 

I've been in private school my whole life and because of that I wouldn't want to go to public school because I know majority of public school kids are assholes to everyone, but the girls are good. In private school you only have a few snobby rich kids, and believe it or not but most private school kids aren't even that rich, including me, it just costs money. Most of the kids in private school are nice people though, they're not assholes to everyone and try to act tough to everyone.

About drugs, well the drugs start in all grades for public school. I'm in my second year of private high school, my sophomore year, and that's the year that private school kids get into drugs, but only a few. So the drug issue is almost the same in both schools but private school just starts one year later, and I don't know how big the drug issue is in public school so yeah.

 

Heres my take.

Public school: There are hard classes, but if you just take the standard courses for your grade, they are simple. I reccomend taking honors + AP classes. Public school has a tendency to be a bit more "Ghetto", because the majority of the people in private schools have a decent bit of money, and don't dress with their pants around their ass cheeks, since there are no uniforms. Public is basically laid-back, and less guidelines. You can still learn if you apply yourself, most schools go up/past Calculus in math, Chemistry-I'm wrong on that- in science, and it can be a challenge if you choose. The majority of these people acting like public school is a bad place, it's really not. It depends on where you live. My school is pretty chill, really no fights, no guns, knifes, bullying, etc. It's nice.

Private school: Much higher rate of learning. You are expected to learn more. The price is higher, but it's worth it for the resources. Public schools don't have nice labs/fitness centers like the majority of private schools. It's a much nicer atmosphere, etc. Generally, a better place for education, and since the majority of the people there re-apply each year, you can make long-term friends, while at public school people aren't-don't feel- obligated to come back year after year. Majority of the people you meet in public schools will move/attend a different school in a few years. Also, probably much less drama. You never know which gangster-hoochie will have a new "Baby daddy" this month. Pregnancies rarely happen, though. I've only seen two pregnant girls, one was raped, and one had the boyfriend for.. 2+ years. (The raped one was in a different state when it happened)

Honestly, it makes no difference, if you are used to private, stick to it, if you have friends/know your community isn't horrible and dangerous, go to public.

Have fun wherever you decide going.

In response to that:

Why would an inferior school cost MORE to attend? It is more expensive because they tend to be generally better schools.

90% of people who get in to fights in public schools decided their own fates. Nobody is gonna randomly come up to you and knock you one. I like to joke around a lot, I respect people, until they give me a good reason to beat the shit out of them.

Pretty much, if your not an ass you won't get in fights unless you choose to.

 

Yes and no. It comes down to this: (if you are a parent)

Ask your child if they want to. List the pros and cons for both. It is their future, after all. Not yours.

Homeschooling
Pros: Learn what you want to learn.
Cons: Considered low social skills. Hard to meet someone until you reach college.

Public School
Pros: Learn to truely interact with people (Unless..your a nerd )
Cons: Violance, chance to be "hung" out with the wrong crowd, and the real world hurts. Just prepares you with real life.

Not as bad as you think. Good sports teams, HELLA better girls, easier to make friends, easier classes.

 

if you dont like kids shooting heroin in the hallways and teachers beating the crap out of their students dont go to public school.

Public school is like herpes, it is un-noticeable some days, then you really notice it one day.

I left it, for a work release program where i get out at 10:20 everyday.

 

Actually people at my school do randomly go up and knock you one lol. that happened to me last year 5th form some guy come up and hooked me in the face and said "me and u in the toilets after school" i said no thank you im not gay. he didnt react to that nicely so we had a fight right then and there. i beat the fuck out of him it was pretty funny. but then i got the bash from his "crew" 12:1. not good ratios.but yea its still allgood.
