The fourth dimension is time. It's not a theory.

A two dimensional shape is one that does not contain volume and can be measure in area or perimeter only. This are and perimeter changes from alteration of said shape.

A three dimensional shape if one that does contain volume and alters from the changing of said shape.

The forth dimension, time, alters the shape through a number of outside factors. Whether it be the velocity of the shape, decay etc, it alters the outcome of said volume, perimeter, area.

We're already in the 4th dimension, And that dimension is Duration. ( Time ) This is not theory, We know this as fact.
So experiencing a new visual dimension would actually be the 5th dimension.

I don't understand why comments like this are in this forum. Don't get me wrong... People are entitled to say what they want. But why would someone with so little knowledge of a subject try to enter into a discussion about it?

space is made up of three dimensions. Just because we haven't explored all of space (which would be an impossibility), you can't say it's the fourth dimension. That's silly.

Supposedly there are 7 dimensions in all, and each one is just a progression of another. I once read a fictional book about the world of 1d, basically the left or right side of everything on paper... and people lived in it and experienced it normally as we do 3d, but the 2d world was a constant on their minds, just as 4d is to us. In the hands of the 2d world was the 1d world, and the 3d world held the 2d world, so on and so forth. Almost like a crystal ball, looking down into it. 4d was a world of insides and outsides, angles and curves, a mixture of x-ray vision and three-dimensional objects. Pretty interesting.

Current theory is 10 dimensions (although some have proposed infinite dimensions). Noone has really been able to imagine anything past the 10th dimension though - not too surprisingly...

The 4th dimension is time. There are 11 dimensions total so space could be one of those.

Fourth dimension is light. If you travel at the speed of light everything around you appears exactly as it does in your model.

Btw time is man made so it can't be the fourth dimension.

That is true, I think there are many possible explanations for the 4d dimension such as time,space,light,shadows,etc...

There are several smart people who believe that there are a total of 11 dimensions in this world. I believe that it's possible, at least.

I mean think about it like this (VERY abstract example, so either keep up or don't even bother): What if the world was just 2-dimensional? A good way to put it would be to use a video game as an example. I can't think of the name, but I know you have played it: That top-view game where you're a little ship in the middle of the screen, and you move the gun around shoting stuff... You know? Well, imagine that's what life is. On the game, the concept of 3-d can't really be comprehended by the ship (you), but the third dimension does exist.

But no matter how hard that little ship tries, It can not point to the third dimension (in this case, toward the screen). In this world, there could be a dimension that is impossible to point to, but still exists.

(I hope you understood that, lol)

I always thought it was a fact that the 4th dimension was time.
