How to change a static IP

In this One Click Tutorialâ„¢, You will learn one of the many ways to change a static IP address. This tutorial is currently for Windows 2000+. I will eventually learn how to do this on Mac's.

Note - There will be no pictures because everything is highly detailed, and straight forward.

To start off, you need a direct connection to your modem and computer. If you have a router, disconnect it and directly hook up your modem to your computer.

1). Open up the command prompt by pressing Start > Run and typing in "cmd"

2). In the command prompt, type “Ipconfig/all”. This will tell you your current IP Address. After, type “ipconfig/release”. Keep the command prompt open for easy access.

3). Go to “Network Connections” (accessible through the control panel). Right click “Local Area Connection” and click “Properties”.

4). With “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) selected, click the “Properties” button.

5). A new window will open. Under the “General” tab, select “Use the Following IP address”. Under “Ip Address”, put “10.0.0.1″. Press the “Tab” button on your keyboard.

6). Press Ok on both open windows.

7). Repeat steps 3-4. Under the “General” tab, press the radio button “Automatically Assign Me an Ip Address”. Press ok on both windows.

8). Go back to the command prompt and type in “Ipconfig/all”. You’ll now notice you have a new IP address.

So, this concludes the very first One Click Tutorialâ„¢'s guide. Please post any problems or some feedback/constructive criticism. This can also be used to bypass the "One download at a time" on sites such as: RapidShare.

How to change a static IP

    This guide is 100% correct.
    I would've enjoyed it more,
if you showed them pictures each step,
since I've always known how to do this,
its just simply easy, and I know what to do.

    Other, no.
The layout was also pretty horrible,
try making it more appealable to a reader.
    The grammer/spelling, is also good.

Goodluck, hope you update this with a new format.

How to change a static IP

Ok....... Why do we have all of these guides that are like not right at all.

First, ipconfig shows your LOCAL IP, not your EXTERNAL IP. If you have a static internal IP, all you have to do is change the IP in the properties thing. If you want to change an external static IP, you have to call your ISP. Plus, to get a static external IP you normally have to pay your ISP extra to have it.

The average user on Sythe is 13-15 Years-old. Do you think a big company (ISP's) will do it for them? Also, another thing, they ask you questions why you want the IP changed.

    Properties aren't editable with IP's :p

What are you talking about? You pay for a static external IP...

This guide does not change your external IP...............

What do you mean properties are not editable with IPs?
