The signature is split in two. The left side is very simple and the right is very busy. Try to get it to flow nicely and the render looks stretched a little. Try fixing those things and you will see it will look much better.

 

Text Is eww. The font looks weird, and red is a bad color.

Hold shift when resizing the render (presuming you use photoshop) to make sure it doesn't look like shit.

Whoever made it also didn't really bother hiding that c4d.

Basically this looks like it could be mashed together in 5 minutes or less. Tell your friend to look up some tutorials.

 

The render definitely looks stretched and it looks like the fonts Angryblue which doesn't suit it at all, looks like something did in 2 mins by someone who's worse than me (and I suck;p).

 

What the hell? Thats a 50 second sig.
New doc, gradient background, put the render on, a bunch of the SAME c4d and then the text. DONE.

No border, render looks streched, text is stuffed and no work at all. (Brushes, effects) etc. 2/10 because Sonic has a sword.

Tips:
Obviously, your mate is a starter, so look at some basic tuts. Get different c4ds and brushes. Then when your mate has more experince move on to more challenging tuts. Don't forget to add a border.

Also fix that text up. Ew!

Blend it all more, smudge the render onto the background.

Use different text colour.

Rather ugly, 2/10.
