Since it must be treated from conception as a person, the embryo must be defended in its integrity, cared for, and healed, as far as possible, like any other human being.

 

Why must it be treated as a person from conception?

 

What is it if its not a human? I think I read somewhere that heartbeat begins at around 6-7 weeks.

Because it has the potential to be a human, it just takes 9 months.

 

I think you could call it a potential human, actually.

Does having a heartbeat entitle one to life?

Why would a potential being have the rights of an actual being?

 

I used to be very libertarian about the whole idea. The mother should have complete control over her own body, to the point of terminating the pregnancy if she wishes. I still mostly lean in that direction, but I don't know if I could condone it in a relationship and still stay with the women. Of course the choice would be entirely up to her.
