Be forced to diet?

Very simple question up for a debate. It is a fact that anorexic people, or those that suffer from bulimia, anorexia or other diet disorders are 'forcecully' fed. It becomes a question of their very survival after a certain point, and doctors have no choice but to forcefully inject food into their blood through intravenous means.

Now, can the same (analogically) be done with the obese? But they don't have a disorder do they? Let's call it overeating, or impulsive eating.

Should a person who suffers from lack of control over their dietary needs be considered one with a disorder? Or just be left as is?

Please feel free to post any views, comments, literature that you feel might be appropriate for this topic. My point of view is that yes, obese people, who are threatening their life by becoming more susceptible to cardiac disease, stroke, atherosclerosis, and the like, due to their obesity, should be forced to diet.

That's my opinion. Feel free to dispute, refute and suggest

Well yeah, if you are getting obese, you should consider a diet, but shouldnt be forced as its there choice on the way they look and how people react to them.

 

Dieting is not the answer to everything, and seriously, are you suggesting we force people to do something, because in the long run it will be "better" for them? That clearly did not work out in the past.

Well, generally obese people want to lose weight for health and physical reasons. Anyway, I was touching more on the subject that forcing people to do something creates dire problems.

Nah, we shouldn't force people to do things they don't want to. That said, the obese shouldn't bitch when they are discriminated against.

 

My dad is overweight, and has been for a long time.

I know him in and out, so if I had to judge from where he stands(my impression), I would say:

No, people should not be forced to diet. I'm sure many of the overweight people on this planet would like to lose weight, but not by force.

If you force someone to do something like go on a diet, a.k.a. lose weight, they didn't accomplish much other then complying.

Also, who's to say what happens if they refuse to diet, jail, prison, etc. ?

How a person eats is up to them, if they want to change they will make an attempt or honest try at it.

 

Can't tell people what to do, plain and simple. Until the fatties are eating so much food that they drive up demand and prices and force suffering on others, I wish them all happiness.

 

It's a good idea, but it definitely shouldn't be forced... maybe for forced to exercise more, but not to go on a diet. Ha ha.

 

I don't think the obese shold be forced to diet because that would be kind of ridiuclous and intruding on people's lives.

No, its there choice whether they want to diet or not. Personally, Me being slightly overweight, am going to start eating right and working out because I have something to strive for. All of my friends have girlfriends and shit, so whos the only one with no girlfriend and no date to the prom... Me. I want to loose weight, it will give me better confidence with girls and just people in general. Do think of me as some huge motherfucker who just eats chips and sits on the computer all day because I am not. I guess girls in my school are just picky like that. *shrugs*

 

to be honest its there life?.. there body you can suggest to them in a nice way that they should go on a diet? like your brother or sister or your friend

i doubt people are happy about dieing from something they love. Or being so fat that that they can't even do everyday activities.

They may be happy with their bodies, but 99% people wouldn't mind losing weight if you could easily.

Certain things need a little "push" to get it to start working.

 

no its not. Say you go on a diet that is no carbs or something. That is a diet. Eating healthily, balancing everything, and getting lots of exercise every day is not the type of diet most people are talking about.

 

What? No. It's their body and if they want to shove five chili hot dogs down their throat every hour for the next five years until they die of heart disease they have every damn right to.

 

No, since when are we aloud to enslave people again?
That would be insane, its their choice how they eat, or diet.
