Boring programming forum - let's do something about it!

Hi guys (and girls ) :)
First of, sorry for the somewhat harsh title...
Anyway, I haven't been very active here on Sythe in the last month or so and that's simply because it doesn't happens very much here on the programming forum (where I am) and I thought we should do something about it :)
I'm not sure what, but something that makes it come alive!
come with ideas! maybe some sort of programming competition? or whatever idea that comes to your mind, Post It!

Nothing will happen. Sythe is a stagnant programming community.
Move on, its for the best.

    1. UE rules state that guides on subjects that have their own forums should go in the specific forum.. dunno why it has a programming section D:
    2. not that hard... thing of an idea of a project and how it helps you learn...
    3. Yea... just tell people to learn... >.<

It would be nice if this section of the forum where to become active again...
Gosh where did all the script kiddies go :(

I like the idea's SuF has got there, but we require more active people before we can do anything... What's the point of adjusting the forum if no one is going to be active :(

What ever... Me does think getting new people in and making them want to learn and making it easy for them is the best way to get this section active...

The point is to increase activity..... We can get that to happen by getting people to want to learn. Then, we must make it so they can learn while on Sythe... That starts with simple guides for each language on how to start... Such as installing the Java JDK, or the answer to a question like "How do I start to program in VB .net?"... Once they get the proper things installed, and understand what they do and stuff, then they need guides on the basics of programming...... This is the HelloWorld shit things... But, that will not get them very far. We need the basics of console programs for each language so that people can begin to learn on their own... Once they get through that stage, a few links to helpful articles and some more advanced guides will get them to stick around... We also need to support people, and answer their questions... I am guilty of this too, but many times if someone asks a dumb easy question many people do not respond... This needs to change... We need people to like us, think we are very helpful and make them want to stay.

So, we need a plan. My plan would be:

    1. Get basic getting ready to program guides up.
    2. Get simple guides that teach users the basics of programming and explain what it is, what you can do with it and things like that.
    3. Lists of websites and resources that people can use to get better at programming.
    4. Make and update source threads for each section
    5. Make and update project suggestion threads for each section.

Other things that you can do to help:

    • Be VERY nice.
    • Help people as best you can, and as fast as you can.
    • Talk to your friends, get them interested.

Suggestions to our plan codenamed "STPF", or "Save the programming forum"... D:

With signature of the week, you have a theme that every abides to. Would we do a similar thing with the programs, or whoever makes the most efficient solution? Or did you have something else in mind?

Efficiency is bad since some languages are faster than others... I was thinking along the lines of... Look of it, the code (Organized, how good, ect), any errors?, user friendliness and the persons experience in programming... like if macro and I were doing a program in java... i would beat him code wise i would almost guarantee it, just because I have a lot more experience... We want people to get active, so letting the new guys win sometimes would boost their confidence and make them want to stay....

Yes but how would you get the competition started. As I said, is it one problem, and whoever makes the best solution based on what you stated above; wins? Or did you plan on doing it another way?

Get it started? Post a thread tell people what the program that have to make for it is... Maybe some guidelines on what it has to do ect.... Judging programs is hard....... That part may just be a tossup.... Just kinda pick some things that you judge with, and go from there......

PotW, epic hax. I want in. Have it in all the areas, Text-File Editing, Picture-File Editing, Auto-clickers, Scriptable Bots, ect.

Just as an example, we get a whole bunch of information on a game-save for something, then we have to use that information and make a program to edit all the shit we got given. (Simple program is simple.)

'Cept a decent program would take longer than a week with all the debugging and shit. You could do it in a week if you have no life, however. :)
