Toys r us or dunkin donuts, or other retail jobs?

well there are many open positions near my house for these and they require 16+ of age which i am already 16.

Of course the best choice would be toys r us but i want to here your peoples opinions preferably the older peoples who had experience in retail jobs are they good? etc etc.

one thing i am pretty nervous about it the group interviews i don't know how they work so if any one can shed some light on it that would be great.

Retail SUCKS, especially clothes retailers. However, Toys R Us may not be so bad because you get a discount (I think) on video games, etc. so if you're into that stuff that's a bonus.

If I were you, I would look for jobs in small businesses or relatively unknown/hard to find jobs in your area because those tend to be easier and less lenient. That's what I did and all I do at my job in the summer is read books rofl.

I'm working in a supermarket and it's pretty tight, nothing too demanding.

Your feet will hurt from standing on them for 5 hours without a break though.

OMG man you're really lucky. I live in NYC and it's like IMPOSSIBLE for a student to find a job unless they're really lucky or have internship experience. =(

I live in nyc too and if you look in the right places you can find just about any job, but to get one you have to know someone who works there, it helps alot.

I've been working at Staples for 7 months now and I like it.
It's not really hard and demanding and I get discounts on stuff lol so it's great imo.

The first week your feet will probably hurt as Louis said but after a while, you get used to it.

As for the group interview, I never had one so I can't help much.

    Good luck.

    I've worked at:

    KFC
    Dicksmiths
    Coles Supermarket
    BWS

Retail is way better than fast food places. In fast food places your always busy, never allowed to take breaks etc. In some retail stores you can just sit down for hours and talk to people and no one cares.

My friend worked at Toys R Us in the bike section. All he did was build bikes for the display. Incredibly easy job, i'd definately recommend Toys R Us.

Look around at the shops, if you see people just talking to each other instead of working, there the places you want to apply at.

    **EDIT**
Just read the group interview bit, i've had a couple of these before.

At group interviews theres generally 5 - 20 people. They'll probably ask you to tell everyone a bit about yourself, generally they start with "who wants to go first?". Say you'll go first, don't go last. Also they usually ALWAYS get you to do an activity since it shows how you can work in a team. For the activity you will be broken into small groups (generally, unless the group interview is already small in which you'll just remain 1 group). Talk A LOT to your team about the activity, give plenty of ideas but don't be too dominant. If you see one of the interview'ers watching you, definately get involved and start talking about the activity because they'll be marking whether you do or don't. If you don't, you won't get another interview.

If you pass the group interview, you'll get an individual interview. After that, if you pass that, you get the job. Its pretty easy, mention things like that your a quick learner etc. Because thats stuff they want.

I'd just pick one and get a job soon. Most retail companies are having weekly employment freezes where they don't hire anyone for that set time.

wow these are some great answers but i especially like yours Tyson you gave very detailed information, thanks a lot.

I have also been looking around at toys r us and some jobs say Sales Associate and the same company is hiring Team Member but they both have the same general job description, they also say they are hiring assistant managers and supervisors at age 16 but my mom says i have to work my way up and they wont give me it.

Never-EVER work in a food industry-unless you are at a nice place, where people who would waste your time/shout/annoy you wont be. I suggest Toys-R-Us. I'm sure they pay about the same, and I'm sure theres discounts, so if you have like a little cousin, he can get some nice stuff.

    Good luck on your application.

i was also considering gamestop but i hear they will never hire kids and if they do they will just want you fired in a few months. personally i want to work in a place about games or toys so i can just talk and chill out, food industries is my last resort.

EDIT: the only thing thats keeping me from getting jobs is the shifts cause i get out of school around 5 every day and get home by 6, and if i do only weekends i wont get paid as much.

To be honest, going with the easiest job may seem like the best choice, but get a job that's harder it'll help you out in the future, saaaay dunkin donuts, working with the espanol is no easy task. Then again, i would never work at a fast food restuarant or dunkins, need to have some dignity :p Ah just get any job, you're 16, you'll get to spend all that money(on b*tches, Ho's, clothes, all that crap) Plus jobs aren't meant to be easy or fun. :D

My sister used to work at toys are us, she says it's a very good job. She said she got discounts, and the employers get first dibs on new shipments of items. It's a decent pay, and a good starting job in my opinion. It's not to busy or hecktick, just don't work at Christmas time. D:

fuck that shit. get a physically demanding job, you get paid more and actually gain more than money from it. My back got ripped off working in a warehouse for 4 months and I don't plan on losing

Even if the job sounds boring, if its better then the rest pick it.
Therfore I believe you should stick with Toys R Us, unless anouther retail store has a better deal for you.

i just read a few reviews on toys r us and they say management is a bit stingy and the discounts are ridiculous and is only good place to work if you like helping kids....i will also look into working in queens mall as the environment there is great with a variety of stores to choose, provided they have a job opening.
