Help Me Purchase 2 Laptops?

Well me and my dad have been looking into Laptop PCs lately, and we were wondering what two computers would be most suitable.

I believe the budget is up to 2000$.
So that would allow 1000$ for each computer, as long as it totals to 2000$.

I need good sized HDD (250GB+), at least 2-4 GB of RAM.
Good sized monitor (14"+)

The last computer my family purchased was a 2002 Dell, which is my current computer. It's slow with only a 60 GB HDD, 512 Mb of RAM.

 

It depends. Are you looking for it for School use/Educational Use, Casual use, or Gaming use? Is your dad looking for one of the above or business use? If you tell me which I could probably give you some advice.

 

Basically, we just want fast computers, with internet, with programs like Microsoft Office, MSN, Mozilla, all the basics.

I will be using mine for educational use/entertainment/casual use.

My dad will be using his for educational use/casual use/email(work shit).

 

Okay, last question. Do you need it to be portable/easy to use?

Don't spend 1k if you just need a good laptop. I bought by little sis a used laptop for $250, 100 gig harddrive and 1 gig of ram.

I'd suggest picking up a laptop for around $500-$600, many of these come with 2gb-4gb of ram. 4gb ram is more then you'll probably ever need, and almost all laptops have at least 100gb HD nowadays.

Again, don't spend more then $600 or so.

I'd suggest that you get a Dell at $579.00 if I remember right.
My girlfriend had about the same utility as you do and she got one. It's perfect for her. You don't need to pay $1000.00 for them.

Note that $579.00 is the price without Microsoft Office 2007 and all the other add-ons they tell you to buy. I had Office 2007 so she didn't need to pay the additional $150.00 for it.

 

You can always torrent what you need..no need buying it.

 

I will try to find the link for this one laptop. Somewhere on Dell, they have this laptop for $300 USD and it has 120 GB of space. I am not completely sure on the RAM. If I find the link, I will send it to you.
