Just bought a new xbox live account? Read this.

Hey everyone. I just figured out something that can help several people out when it comes to downloaded content and usage restrictions.

As most of you probably know, when you purchase an account with content previously purchased on it and then download it to your console you can only use it while on that account. That is because of usage restriction. Microsoft does this so people can't get free downloads from friends and what not.

There is a solution to this problem. It's called a license transfer. Anyone can do it and it's very simple.

1.) Go to xbox.com and sign in to your newly purchased account.
2.) Click the support link near the top of the page and a drop down menu will appear.
3.) Choose License Transfer.
4.) Now read through and whenever you are ready begin the license transfer process. (They even have a nice little video )

By transfering your licenses to your own xbox you will be cancelling out the usage restrictions and you will be able to use the content on every account on your xbox and you will be able to access the content offline.

This sounds like it will work however if you do this will the other account loose all the content that they have downloaded?

 

This method was originally made to transfer licenses after buying a new console, however, if you just bought an account license transfer allows you to get rid of usage restriction for content downloaded on that account on the original owners xbox. What this is effectively doing is allowing you to use the content on your xbox without any restrictions. The original owner of the account will then be faced with usage restrictions and will have to purchase the content again on another account I believe. I'm not 100% sure about this though. I don't really know what you are trying to ask me but the account will not lose anything (if that helps).

 

Alright, lets say if I had a customer who had an arcade game I wanted, if I used this method I could get all of my customer's arcade games, videos, etc. onto my Xbox 360 without him knowing or missing anything? I hope that clears it up...

 

the bad part is that you can only use it once every 12 month.... i have a friend in Microsoft that told me about this. its good if your friend bought something very expensive because you will have to wait 12 month before you can do it again,.

 

This is what I'm not 100% sure about. If you did I license transfer it would move all of the downloads to your xbox and you could use them. The downloads would still be on the account when your customer recovered it back. The thing that I'm unsure about is the usage restriction for them. I don't know if they would be faced with usage restriction since the download licenses are on your xbox.
