mIRC Guide

For Windows​

Part I [Download]

a. Go to mIRC homepage, http://mIRC.com
b. Click the Download button on the top panel

c. Now click the Download mIRC button

​

You have now downloaded mIRC

Part II [Installation]

a. Navigate to the directory which mirc635.exe is located, run the file

​

b. Click next and agree to the terms and conditions
c. Select your installation directory, default is fine

You have now installed mIRC

Part III [The Basics]

a. Go to File -> Select server

​

b. In the "mIRC Options" dialog box, click the Add button
Please note I will be using the GhostNetwork to show how to do certain things in this guide. GhostNetwork is where people from Sythe gather but it isn't the offical SytheIRC. If you wish to talk to people from Sythe on that network type in the details displayed in the picture or select to use the server info that you have from another clan or site.

c. Click the "Ok" button and click the "Connect" button displayed in the image below:

d. Now enter the details in the image below:

​

e. Now hit "Connect" button

You should now be successfully connected to an IRC server!

Part IV [Features]

To change your font to Arial type: /font -z Font size Font name and hit Enter I used Tahoma through this guide

To get a list of channels on a network type /list *keyword*and hit Enter

Above: You can see a list of channels on the GhostNetwork, the image was partially cut but as you can see when you use the list command you will be able to see the channel name, amount of people, modes set on channel and the topic of the channel. You can double-click the channel name in the List to enter the channel. To close the list on the switch-bar right-click "Channels List" and click close.

To see a person's hostmask or what channels they are in type /whois nickname and hit Enter

To kick a person from a channel if you are a voice+ type /kick #channel nickname and hit Enter

To ban a person from a channel if you are a half-op+ type /ban #channel nickname Reason Not needed and hit Enter

To change your nickname type /nick newnickname and hit Enter

To join a channel type /join #channelname and hit Enter

To join a channel type /part #channelname and hit Enter

Definitely helpful for anyone that is new to the IRC. This was well written and you included everything a new person would need to know.

Do you know if some of these techniques, such as changing your font, apply to other IRCs? such as ChatZilla on Firefox?
