Why do you play video games?

I agree with the riddler, I usually just play games just to have a break from the real world.

 

I play games because it's the only thing keeping me from starting fires in streets.

 

Well, I play Runescape. Many people (including myself) have questioned why exactly I do play it. I like the aspect of the competition and personal achievement. I also like the aesthetics of the game, for example I like the fact that you can sort of play however you wish. There are skills, quests, PvM, PvP and so on....everybody is doing something else for their own reason. Because the game has so much variety, everyone has their own set of goals on it that they're trying to achieve. It's not like Halo where you just shoot all the aliens, or WoW where you redunantly battle other clans. It's such a huge game where basically no two accounts are ever alike. And that's what's awesome about it.

 

I tend to agree with this. I very, very rarely play single player games for the reason that I find their to be no point to success in a game where your only competition is unequivocally inferior computer intelligencce. Even a PvE scenario with friends, I still find it boring, as compared to the truly human test of skill that pvp offers in every game. You Final Fantasy, Mario, and Sims players can have your fun, but I'll be busy testing my mettle against other people.

That being said, its very possible to play games for the solitary enjoyment. Its the same thing with music. I love the mosh pit but it doesn't mean I dont occasionally listen for the sake of listening. I play Zelda and Sly Cooper and Ratchet and Clank, but I would never measure up those games against CoD 4 and WaW, Gears 2, Halo 3, Runescape or Guild Wars (or Super Smash, which is the ultimate example of competition in the new world we live in).

But more to the topic, I play games to accomplish something, to impress someone, or to gain something. I have an active enough social life where I don't play all that much. Mainly saturdays and afternoons, but even then its usually with friends around.

If I didn't play World of Warcraft I would have absolutely nothing to do at my house when my friends can't do anything.

 

I mainly games out of entertainment.
But RuneScape is just addicting. -.-

One day though, I will look back here on Sythe and say, "Wow, now I can sell my account for good money "

 

I play games to plug into a more easy to manage social environment. Someone pisses me off I can put them on my ignore list and not have to care about them. Unfortunately I also play Eve Online. This means when Goonswarm(google evewiki and then look up goonswarm) decides to do Something Awful I have to stay out of the way. I'm happy I wasn't in Band of Brothers and I'm not in KenZoku.

 

I always wonder... what could i have done with the time i spent playing runescape.

I have played runescape 5-6 years and I wonder what I could have been doing in that time.

I love to play guitar but for some reason I feel addicted to the computer.

because all my friends play game (runescape), its like myspace but a game, a social network.

 

All the simulated pr0n and gfs i make online are fun for meh n0bs

And there's alot of things I could do that are better (Studying, skating, chilling with friends irl), but games are fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun

And the fun factor is what keeps me going.

 

Ah, sometimes it's the addiction to the games. I know I was like that, when I started playing Runescape. I would literally sneak to the computer at 3 o'clock at night, and get a few hours in. It was completely pathetic. I play it now, for the PvP or similar. It's time that I spend mixed with other internet activities and television.

As for wasting your life.. there's nothing else that's really that appealing for me. I can go to a friend's house, sure, but during the week, I don't feel like going anywhere. I feel like recuperating from my eight hour school day.

 

I just spend a 'little' time on the games. I'll play them just for fun, and i can gain some $ with it, so it's near as work.

 

Mainly to relieve stress. But I love competitive gaming, its all for fun. But, I also have other things to do, I can keep games to a minimum but I think I play it all day >_<, but still I did not waste my childhood playing games, I've many people online and got to know them in real life.

 

I play games because my head would blow up if my whole life would be serious.

 

If it's fun, it's worth it. I spent about a year of my life in World of Warcraft. I don't look back at it as a waste; I look as it as the good times, when I could enjoy that game. Now I don't. Now I play rs. Someday I will quit, but the time will be worth it because I had fun. If you want to say that something's a waste of time because it doesn't last, you're going to die anyway. So I game. I live. I die.

 

Games are fun, you can do and be whatever you want. You choose your path and have no one tell you how to do it, when you become successful you know it was only YOU who did and no one else. Games teach you many things believe it or not.
I personally play to escape from the world, its my own world i can control. I also am very bored and tried after school and sports and cannot drive yet. You might call me addicted but i can sell my accounts any time i want, i just don't want to because i still find the game fun.

 

For fun, RS almost ruined my life untill I got banned.
