no, it works with a normal controller. the custom game has a special program and the game ends about 4 seconds after it starts. in like 30 min. a day you can have millions of customs after a bit.

do you have the turbo controller? if not anyone can do this I will put the map and gametype in my fileshare Friday. it just starts and the host dies in his spawn. then it's set as score to win 1 and suicides are +1 kill. game ends and u start it again.
