    Sythe DOWNTIME :Omfg.

I know theres a few threads about this but seriously, its more like Sythe DOWNTIME than UPTIME.

as in, most of the time sythes up, then it goes off for like 5 mins, then you click the next 2 pages it works then it's off again.. -maybe exxaggerated a lil.

    But you get the point.

As soon as i can im going to donate to hopefully get better servers.

Read macromans post, it's DDoS attacks not server issues.

And you posted two of 'em.

    Distributed Denial of Service.

Attacks the server with many requests and queries at same time, enough to crash it.

Why do people do these things, and I'm pretty sure sythe has a good plan, how can DDoSing this site do anything? Even if 100 people were doing it at once, it would only lag themselves....

Go into more detail on how people can DDoS a site like this..

There are no people involved. Infected computers, "zombie" machines, are all controlled by a single person. This person, controlling the bot usually through an IRC server, will tell the bots to continuously make requests to a website. The bot master does not care one bit on the adverse effects of these nonstop request - the overall collective effort of these bots in the end is what is desired. So what if I lose a bot or two here and there? The site is down, and that's all they want. Botnets in general are more than 100 in total, and added together, it can be devastating to many connections. Even if most of the connections in the botnet are weaker than yours, collectively, they will overpower yours, and ultimately put you out of service. Why people do this? Some like to do it just for fun and to bother people. :)

And anyways, when Sythe is down, it does not necessarily mean it's being attacked. Sometimes the server load is high when a large rush of genuine people come to the forum. There is not much anyone can do.
