...that we CAN talk about illegal drugs, where to get them, how much they cost, and how to do them. BUT we CANT talk about drugs being bad for the person, them being a bad influence for others, them breaking the law, or say any of it on their thread about the stuff.

I think thats really dumb because Sythe tries to keep a site that is legal and doesnt break any laws. Buying and selling pixels is legal because they dont exist, although exposing and educating minors to illegal substances and substance abuse is.

Perhaps a rule change/alteration should be in the near future.

 

You are free to talk about the reasons not to use drugs. I'm haven't and won't do weed because of the legal aspect and for a morally higher position.

I've been seeing way to many drug related topics lately, one or two every once in a while is okay, but too many is ridiculous.

Censoring various topics is not in moral, or ethical interest especially in Sythe's eyes. Now first off, I invite anybody here to make a topic that outlines exactly how drugs are bad for you. If you make that topic, you should be able to defend that topic when provided with counter-evidance.

Education is power. Education allows 'minors' to make an educated decision and make informed choices in their lives. The fact is, drugs like marijuana are NOT fully understood, and the best we can do is provide each other with the most updated scientific evidence related to the drugs use.

For example, a study recently showed that REGULAR marijuana smokers are TWICE as likely to develop testicular cancer than a control group that did not use marijuana. This study came out recently, and has not been replicated.

One of the factors of good science is replication, so you must take that study for what it's worth, a single piece of an unfinished puzzle. The study does not PROVE the marijuana increases the chance for testicular cancer among regular marijuana smokers, however it shows that there is POSSIBLY a correlation. If the study is replicated multiple times, then it become closer to a proof of this fact.

However there are also studies that have been done that show marijuana does not effect lung cancer rates, and a few that I know of that have shown marijuana even reduces the size of a lung tumor.

As I said, and cannot stress enough, you must take this for what it's worth, an unfinished puzzle, and these are just pieces attempting to draw conclusions. One study cannot cause a person to give absolute faith in it's findings.

The bottom line of what I'm trying to say is the following:
1. You cannot assume that because a single study showed something, or even two, three of four studies drew a single conclusion that that conclusion is true. There could be a variety of variables at work that effect the end results.
2. Suppressing education is exactly what is used in racial, gender, religious, or any other kind of discrimination. Regardless of the laws a state provides, it's citizens have a right to freedom of knowledge, and freedom of speech. If I want to learn about a topic that is my decision, and the state should have NO right to censor material provided that the material itself does not break the law. Material regarding information of any substance, regardless of that substances legality is NOT illegal.
3. As an individual I have the right to make choices about what I want to put in my body. As this is the internet and we live in an ever globalizing world, you must recognize that there are countries in this world where marijuana is illegal, if not part of the culture. I will turn to Holland, or Jamaica as examples of this. (Although marijuana is not technically legal in Jamaica it is part of the culture)
4. I've already stated this but I cannot stress it enough Education is power!

Exactly, If you want to avoid the marijuana threads, please by all means feel free to do so.

From a logistics standpoint the drug-related threads should be consolidated into one thread (or possibly one thread per-drug?) as to avoid the current complaints of those who do not enjoy seeing a battery of threads about the same topic over and over regardless of the discussion happening in that topic.

Anyone can do whatever they'd like, but im just saying. We cant sell real world items like warez on this site because it's illegal. So how can we subject members (keep in mind that most are probably under 13) to illegal drug use, prices, sales, etc.? I think that if you do that then you should be able to sell modded controllers, cds, dvd players, etc because its just as illegal.

 

You're acting like Sythe is a place where drug deals go on, or drug dealers advertise their services. We don't have any sort of 'Drug' forum where you have users sending / receiving drugs.

All we do is have discussions regarding a wide range of topics. With this in mind, we're always willing to listen to the opposing side of the argument as long as it's properly cited.

 

About 95 percent of all the drug topics on sythe are about weed. Its not a big deal at all if you want to be one of those kids thats like "woot! I don't need drugs to have fun" then just don't come in the SFA or Off Topic forums.
